SouthernPigskin.com Recruiting Analyst Luke Stampini lists his National Signing Day predictions.
National signing day for the 2010 class will take place February 3, 2010. The decision day for college football’s next crop of stars gives fax machines a workout, hat tricks are in full force, and provides enough drama to rival a soap opera. While the excitement of that day is still five months away, an eternity in recruiting, SoFLAfootball will take a shot at prognosticating where some of the top uncommitted prospects sign come February.
*****WHERE WILL THEY GO?*****
Chris Dunkley WR 6′0″ 175 Pahokee: Dunkley was a heavy Florida Gator lean early in the process, only to watch them slide back to the pack. It looks like the Gators are back to being the team to beat, but Dunkley will still visit Southern Cal, Georgia, West Virginia, and possibly Tennessee. While some of those visits will really give Dunkley to think about, look for him to sign with the Gators on signing day.
Torrian Wilson OL 6′4″ 295 Miami Northwestern: Wilson has been all over the place with his list of top schools. Miami has been on and off, while Michigan and Stanford have consistently been in Wilson’s top choices. Despite that, it is tough to see Wilson going anywhere other than Miami come February.
Lamarcus Joyner DB 5′9″ 165 St. Thomas Aquinas: Joyner says his top three are Florida State, Ohio State and Florida. He grew up a fan of Florida State, it seems that is where he wants to play, and a commitment to the Seminoles looked imminent. People surrounding Joyner seem to be delaying his commitment, but in the end look for Joyner to stick with his gut and the Seminoles.
Corey Lemonier DE 6′4 225 Hialeah: Lemonier came out with New Mexico and Illinois as his leaders, but recently recanted stating all schools are even. The Illini were able to nab Corey Liuget from Hialeah in 2008 and look for them to do it again with Lemonier in 2010.
Ivan McCartney WR 6′1″ 165 Miramar: McCartney has been associated with three schools in particular as of late, Florida, West Virginia, and Miami. It probably is safe to say these are the schools in the running for McCartney. Despite Miami being the hometown school and Florida making a strong push following Friday Night Lights, the fact that McCartney has two former teammates at West Virginia may be too much to overcome. Look for a Miramar reunion in Morgantown.
Willis Wright WR/DB 6′0″ 195 Miami Springs: Wright has yet to take a college entrance exam, so his offers are limited. He has also made it known he wants to play wide receiver in college, while the hometown Miami Hurricanes want him to play safety. Across town, FIU tells him he has a wide receiver spot waiting for him. The Golden Panthers also has former Miami Springs wide receiver and close friend of Wright, T.Y. Hilton, as the face of the program, not to mention a verbal commitment from one of Wright’s classmates, Randy Williams. Some feel Wright may already be a silent commitment to FIU, whether that is true or not, come February look for Wright to sign with FIU.
Giovanni Bernard RB 5′9″ 195 St. Thomas Aquinas: Bernard has cut his list to eight schools, and it will be a waiting game as he is in no rush to make a decision. The eight schools include Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Oregon State, Notre Dame and Nebraska. It is tough to say where Bernard signs come February, but he appears to like the Big 12 Conference, which is good for Nebraska. His brother, Yvenson, became a star at Oregon State so look for the Beavers to be in it until the end. Of the in-state schools, Florida State may have the best shot, but look for Bernard to bolt from the Sunshine State. Next fall look for another Bernard to be calling Corvallis, Oregon home.
Richard Ash DT 6′4″ 275 Pahokee: Ash has stated that LSU and Southern Cal are the two schools that are standing out for him. He has visited the LSU campus, but has not see USC yet. In the end, Ash’s relationship with Trojans defensive line coach Jethro Franklin may be too much to overcome for the Bayou Bengals.
********************WHO WILL FLIP?********************
Every recruiting cycle a prospect retracts a verbal commitment only to sign with another school. The 2010 class has already had one prospect change his commitment when Pahokee defensive back Merrill Noel changed his mind from Florida State to Wake Forest. That same scenario will likely play out again by the time February comes. So what prospect may change schools in the coming months?
Demar Dorsey S 6′2″ 185 Boyd Anderson: Dorsey has long been rumored to be the prospect that was the softest on his commitment to the Florida Gators. Following Friday Night Lights he said he was still firm to the Gators, but there just been too much smoke to overlook. The school that might be the biggest threat to the Gators for Dorsey is West Virginia. It will be interesting to see if the Moutaineers will be able to flip the early Gator commit.

We at SoFLAFootball.com pride ourselves on seeing each and every one of the top prospects in person, if not during the fall in a game from the sidelines, at a camp, combine, or 7-on-7 event. Unlike other sites we do not base our evaluations solely on film or highlights. We want to feel the speed of the game, verify the caliber of talent a prospect if facing, and measure up prospects by being right next to them.
