Southern Pigskin is excited about partnering with Paws4People.org spreading the message they need help in obtaining dogs and money to train service dogs for our vets and others.

Budweiser, AKA Buddy is a Southern Pigskin AKC black lab pup who we donated to the Paws4People organization earlier this year.

We are excited about partnering with Paws4People.org spreading their message that they need help in obtaining dogs and money to train service dogs for our vets, active military and others including policemen, firefighters and children with disabilities who are in need of help. They need dogs, support and yes money. We will follow Buddy's progress from the training through his life with his new home and owner.

Budweiser's journey began January 28th when Buddy was taken to Tybee Island, Georgia for transport to his first stop. The Big House... literally, Lakin Correctional Facility. The pups are trained by inmates at various federal and state prisons. After a stay there, he'll be moved into another facility for more indepth training. And then finally, Buddy will get to pick his owner. Not the other way around. Buddy will spend time with a variety of folks who are in need of a service dog, and then he decides where he'll live.

In an ongoing effort, we ask our friends at Paws4People.org and Lakin Correctional Facility to provide us with updates on his progress. From these updates you can tell Buddy is going throug intensive training learning how to aid whoever he ends up with. Buddy could become anything from a seeing eye assistant dog to a full fledge in-field military dog. So far, our Buddy is proving to be excellent in his training.

Not yet a year old, Budweiser is growing... and looks exactly like his Daddy but black. His Daddy is chocolate. The same beautiful face, huge head, long legs and athletic. Buddy is a 5 star....

Here is the latest update we received.

April 1st, 2012- Buddy has been doing well with his training, he is a quick learner. Buddy has a personality that continues to grow from day to day. He is very hyper and goofy. He has picked up on humping with stuffed animal toys in his mouth.

April 8th, 2012- Buddy has been working hard on his basic commands. He has been doing well with maintaining his commands. His attention has been more focused lately instead of being everywhere.

April 15th, 2012- Buddy has continued to show his personality. He is getting tall and slender. Buddy does not seem to be real affectionate with many people unless he knows that person and grows close to them. Budd is still working on not jumping up on people and other things. He is also barking at times when he is being stubborn. Buddy got his “Big Boy” collar this week with his name on it. It is sized down as small as it will go and is just a little big. However, it does not fall off of him, so he is wearing it around well!! In my opinion, Buddy is a wonderful growing pup who needs a lot of love, consistency, a stern handler, and much patience. Buddy will steal anybody’s heart who will allow him to. I see big things that could happen in Buddy’s future!!!! He’s GREAT!!!!

May 14th,2012- Buddy has really grown these past couple of weeks, I cant get over how much that he is matured. He is doing very well in maintaining his commands, I do feel that he is a very hyper puppy, but I think that is what makes him really stand out. He loves to learn new things everyday, this past week along with working on his manners he has also been leaning to get his leash and to retrieve a few other things. When it comes to Budd I know that he has not only taught me some patience, but he has really been learning a lot of discipline and he has been obedient. It don’t take much for him to get really excited and hyped up but I do say that he knows when it is time for to simmer down. At the end of the day he is usually so tired that we don’t even have to tell him to get in his kennel he does that on his on.

I just love Buddy he always puts a smile on my face just when I even talk about him, again he is an AWESOME growing puppy!!!!!!!

May 20th 2012 - Wow this past week you could say that Buddy has been one busy puppy. He has been to school with me all week and loves the class. I thought that by taking him up on the hill everyday would help him with his manners and they have. I have noticed that once he gets attached to someone he really don’t like to even be away from them at all. I truly can see good things happening in his future, he also tries to get mouthy when he is told to do something that he doesn’t want to do, but he does it anyway. I thought that I would let you know that next week we are going try to start him on reading his commands I will let you know how that turns out. Until next week Budd says HI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
