John L. Smith will be named Arkansas' interim head coach this afternoon.

Sources have confirmed that Arkansas administrators have called a team meeting for 4 PM this afternoon to announce that John L. Smith is being named as the school’s interim head football coach.

Smith, who has a career head coaching record of 132-86 (.606), spent the last three years as an assistant coach with the Arkansas program as special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach. He accepted the head coaching job at FCS Weber State (his alma mater) during the offseason, but will return to Fayetteville to serve as the interim coach for the Razorbacks for the upcoming season.

Smith’s previous head coaching stops include Idaho, Utah State, Louisville and, most notably, Michigan State.

Regarded as one of the top defensive minds in all of college football, Smith will take over an Arkansas program still feeling the aftershocks of Bobby Petrino’s recent dismissal following a series of infidelities and subsequent cover-ups.

Arkansas University is expected to comment on the situation later this afternoon. Stay tuned for the latest.
