The Republican National Convention has booked Rodney Atkins to headline its official welcome party on Aug. 26 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
One of the hottest country music acts touring this summer, Rodney Atkins will be part of an elaborate, invitation-only event at Tropicana Field. "I would liken this to a Super Bowl halftime show," Tampa Bay Host Committee president Ken Jones told the Tampa Bay Times. "It's going to be something that's so unique, people are going to be talking about it until the next convention."
Atkins will be headlining the afternoon which will also include appearances and performances by the NFL Buccaneers cheerleaders, the Tampa Bay Rays street team, the University of South Florida's marching band, Tampa Bay Lightening dancers, local contestants from American Idol and The Voice, and various cirque-style performers from Cirque Dreams at Busch Gardens.
Some 20,000 invited guests will see the show, including up to 15,000 members of the media, GOP delegates and local VIPs.
