Season Record: 47-5
Wofford at Appalachian State
The Terriers invade Boone, NC in what is this week’s FCS Game of the Week to be televised on ESPN2. This should be a high-scoring affair with the SoCon’s #1 and #2 scoring offenses meeting in what should decide the league title. Payton Award Candidate App State QB Armanti Edwards leads the league in pass efficiency (155.6) and Wofford QB Ben Widmyer (13 total TDs) lead potent offenses that can score at any time. Expect a very close game between two very talented teams. My gut says that Wofford would win this game under any other circumstances but App is at home and has revenge on their minds after last year’s loss at Wofford.
Appalachian State - 45
Wofford - 42
Chattanooga at Western Carolina
In the exact opposite matchup from Friday’s game this one features the league’s two worst scoring offenses and two of the three worst scoring defenses. Chattanooga has been awful this year while Western Carolina has been competitive in some games.
Wester Carolina - 21
Chattanooga - 14
Georgia Southern at The Citadel
This game has no bearing on the SoCon title after both teams suffered tough losses the last couple weeks but it does have bragging rights and pride at stake. After a close game with Elon, The Citadel has struggled the last two weeks and faces a very underrated Georgia Southern squad. GSU QB Antonio Henton (10 pass TDs) has given Eagle fans hope for a very promising future.
Georgia Southern - 28
The Citadel - 17
Furman at Samford
Samford hosts Furman in a showdown to be televised on Sports South in what could be a very competitive game. RB Chris Evans (897 yards, 9 TDs) is the league’s top rusher (128.1ypg) and has proven to be one of the most overlooked players in FCS. Furman QB Jordan Sorrells (15 pass T Ds, 136.2 pass eff.) has improved since last year to become one of the league’s top passers. Samford’s #1 scoring defense (18.1) and Furman’s #3 scoring defense (20.9) should make for a completive and close game. Furman wins in a very close game on the road.
Furman - 21
Samford - 18
