Dave Doeren's Wolfpack had been close to getting key victories in previous efforts. This time, they finished.

North Carolina State head coach Dave Doeren has led the Wolfpack to three consecutive bowl games. Now, he has a signature victory. In a convincing road effort, NC State showed balance and physicality defeating Florida State 27-21. The Wolfpack have found their footing after a close season-opening loss to South Carolina.

Doeren's Wolfpack had been close to getting key victories in previous efforts. Last season, NC State missed a potential game-winning field goal at eventual national champion Clemson before losing in overtime. Against FSU a year ago, the Wolfpack fell by just four points. This time, though it got interesting late, NC State was able to finish.

Stars led the way for the Wolfpack in this key triumph. The dynamic Jaylen Samuels paced the offense with a touchdown rushing, a score receiving and a 25-yard pass, while edge-rusher Bradley Chubb recorded two redzone sacks and a redzone forced fumble. Samuels and Chubb were both critically-clutch when it mattered most.

Winning in Tallahassee recalibrates the season for NC State, moving the Wolfpack into clear contention in the ACC Atlantic with both Louisville and Clemson coming to Raleigh later in the year. Suddenly, after some moved on after the week one loss, NC State is a team to watch.

The Wolfpack got over the hump against Florida State, giving Doeren a headline win and NC State a new direction.
