With backup quarterback Jacob Coker injured, redshirt freshman Sean Maguire is now FSU's top reserve.

Though just a redshirt freshman, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston may be the Heisman Trophy frontrunner. He has thrown for 2,661 yards and 26 touchdowns while completing over 69% of his passes for the undefeated Seminoles. Winston has given Florida State tremendous consistency, leadership and production. Backup Jacob Coker has given the Seminoles security.

A 6'5'', 230 pound redshirt sophomore, Coker nearly edged out Winston for the starting quarterback job this past off-season. Much like Winston, Coker is a mobile, strong-armed prototype under center. He played in four games last year, attempting five passes and throwing a touchdown against Savannah State. Coker had attempted 36 passes in six games this season before suffering a knee injury against Wake Forest. He is now having surgery and is out, per reports, indefinitely.

Redshirt freshman Sean Maguire, 6'3'', 215 pounds, is now Florida State's top reserve. Maguire was rated as a four star recruit by ESPN and a three star recruit by Rivals, Scout and 247 Sports out of high school. He led a wing-T offensive attack at Seton Hall Prep in Sparta, New Jersey and finished his career with 1,881 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions. Seminole head coach Jimbo Fisher mentioned Maguire alongside Winston and Coker during the spring quarterback competition.

Off-season reports on Maquire were positive. He completed 6-of-13 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown in the annual Garnet and Gold game. Maguire has seen action in two games this fall and attempted his first collegiate passes, completing one, this past Saturday against the Demon Deacons. If Florida State plays as expected in upcoming home games with Syracuse and Idaho, Maquire should soon get plenty of in-game repetitions.

Looking at the roster, the Seminoles currently have two redshirt freshmen and a currently-redshirting true freshman as available scholarship quarterbacks. Winston may be college football's best. Maquire, in for Coker, is next in line.
