Jacob Coker and Jameis Winston will now compete for Florida State's starting quarterback position.

In a move that will certainly provide some clarity in Florida State’s quarterback competition, rising redshirt junior Clint Trickett has announced his intention to transfer.

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed that Trickett, who has been the Seminoles’ backup each of the past two seasons, confirmed that Trickett has asked for and been granted his release.

Trickett was in a three-way competition with Jameis Winston and Jacob Coker to become Florida State’s starting quarterback this fall. Recent reports had indicated that Winston had taken a lead in the competition.

Trickett, whose father is an assistant coach at Florida State, is set to graduate at the end of this semester, meaning that he will be eligible to play for another FBS program in 2013.
