Article: So this came up today. I don’t know how strict UNC is but I don’t think it will be a big deal for Hariston. They can afford to lose or not have him for a few games. The ACC and Tourney play is what really matters.

Pot in sports: While it’s still illegal I guess it should still be banned. I would like for the NCAA to make a rule for everyone instead of allowing schools or conferences to make their own rules. Otherwise it gets unfair when honeybadger is toking up all day with no punishment and Sammy/Hariston get found with it in their car miss games. And if anyone wants to say “synthetic weed isn’t illegal” well it probably should be. Even the guy that made it, a Clemson professor I think, said you would have to be stupid to smoke it since it’s dangerous. The main reason I don’t want players smoking ANYTHING is it hurts your lungs and performance.

Pot in general. I don’t smoke and don’t ever intend to but I think it’s stupid that it’s not legal when cigs are. Legalize it, regulate it, and tax it. It will make tax money and stimulate the economy. The fact that we are wasting money putting non violent criminals in jail and paying cops to bust this up is ridiculous. The crime rate would plummet in some areas if you made pot legal. It also has several medical uses that are being neglected.

I know this is a contentious issue, but now that the decision has been made, there is fallout.

My church has decided to drop the scouts and I must say I am extremely angry about it. The way they are handling it has me really on edge. Without telling anyone, they took the Cub Scout section off of their website, removed all bulletin boards in the church…...The icing on the cake for me was when the pastor had a sermon yesterday about the decline of morality in America and how men need to stand up and be vocal….I was expecting this as a set up to announcing their withdrawal of support for the scouts with an explanation…..Well, he remained silent and didn’t mention it the church. Maybe 5-10 people know of this decision….......So much for being vocal about morality…..He is following the marching orders of the Southern Baptist Convention more than anything else.

The Church had no problem sponsoring the scouts with its open policy to all faiths such as the Jewish, Islam, Mormon, etc which they feel is wrong…...but when you add the homosexual to that list it suddenly becomes a major issue….......So was the Church wrong then when they allows scouts from all faiths to visit the church as a scout or are they wrong now?.......They sure as heck had no problem taking the 4K-5K pounds of food the scouts gathered for their food bank or the needed playground that an Eagle Scout project provided…

I actually spoke with our pastor one on one for about 2 hours last week and he acted a little more “conflicted” than the actions that have been displayed….

Going to be a tough week, but I have a feeling I will be seeking a new Church. I cannot be part of a place that doesn’t have the mettle to explain in detail their actions and does so in a cowardly way.

After making a big move to the B1G Rutgers seems to be failing left and right. *Abusive basketball coach coverup (he was paid well despite how he left)
*Men’s Lacrosse coach had to be investigated but was reinstated
*The AD was fired after the public outcry forced the President to remove him

Now they bring in a new AD, Julie Hermann who has a list similar to what Rutgers just went through. What is wrong with the Rutgers president?

http://espn.go.com/new-york/college-sports/story/_/id/9319545/julie-hermann-new-rutgers-scarlet-knights-ad-reportedly-center-sex-discrimination-suit

Summary
*16 years ago her entire volleyball team turned on her and got her fired for being abusive. She denied knowing about the claims that lead to her getting fired.
*Around the same time another coach sued her after she got fired for being pregnant. She was on video (talking directly to the camera) about not wanting her assistant to get pregnant. Recently she denied the existence of this video. The assistant won $150k in the suit for wrongful termination
* In 2008 she was sued for wrongful termination of a whistle blower at Louisville that came forward about a sexist and discriminatory track head coach. She appeared supportive of the whistle blower until she went to HR with her claims against he coach and was fired. Again she was sued and lost $300k though this case got overturned and is still in litigation.

It blows my mind how dumb their president must be to either not know about all this stuff or hire her despite the problems. I say both have to go especially the president. What do yall think?

What are yall’s favorite pro players/teams/leagues here?

As a SC native it’s a little hard to be a pro fan since the nearest team is like 500 miles away but I watch some NFL, NBA, and NHL. Being raised by a single mother of 2 and my dad not being a sports fan it kinda took going to Clemson for me to really bloom into a sports fan.

Players
1 Peyton Manning. Seeing him read and dismantle defenses is something special.
2 Kobe Bryant. yea yea he had a questionable past (before I watch sports really) but I consider him to be the hardest competitor in what has become a pretty soft NBA. He’s a dying breed. There are a few better players statistically but they still don’t have Kobe’s intangibles.
3 Alex Ovechiken (NHL, Washington Capitals). It’s hard to actually get a Caps/hockey game on TV but he’s a fun player to watch when he’s playing wild. His coaches have hurt his play lately but I think his new coach figured out how to use him this year. I expect big things next season. He really stands out from the rest with his wild play style.
4 CJ Spiller. Oh wait I’m convinced that Bills games only air in Canada. It’s hard to actually see this guy play in real time.

Teams
Lakers. It’s hard to watch them play since the western games start so late but they are generally the most fun to watch.

Detroit Red Wings and Washington Capitals. I was introduced to hockey by a Wings fan and semi adopted the Caps so I could have “my own team”. Can’t go wrong with supporting the storied and classy wings. Caps are fun to watch when Ovi’s playing good so it’s hard to lose with them. As long as you’re not a Penguins fan we’re cool.

NFL?? Falcons and whoever Peyton plays for at the time. Falcons because they are close, I expect big things from Matt Ryan after he broke Clemson’s heart in 08?, and I’m not really a fan of Cam so ATL will have to do.

Leagues

NBA: there are a lot of really good teams and players it’s a fun league to watch. They are getting a little soft lately with the flopping nonsense and bad reffing (I’m looking at you Miami Heat) but still a great watch. Lots of young talent has exploded on the scene this year. After watching the 30 for 30 on Reggie Miller (great watch imo) this week I can see why oldschool NBA fans might not like the league as much anymore. This is the only pro league I watch enough to really be able to spit some stats out for.

NFL: Also so great young players that are making the league more exciting. I like their rule changes that a lot of people gripe about. The ducking RB rule is the only iffy one in my mind. No other league has the stable of athletes that have strength and power the NFL has. I really feel like these guys are the biggest freaks out of all the major leagues.

NHL: Some people think it’s soccer on ice but that is WAY off. Scoring is low but shots on goal is far far higher. And who doesn’t like a little fighting??? They fight and break it up and usually keep their shit together like men should afterwards. Other leagues are a mess if fights start breaking out, not these guys. These players are very athletic and nimble for most of them being big moose on ice.

I played baseball as a kid but I would rather cut a pine branch and hit rocks into the woods then watch a baseball game. NASCAR and golf are “nap sports” to me. Turn them on and take a nap. How about yall?
