https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/14/politics/donald-trump-wall-funding-bill/index.html

I don’t like it.  This will set a precedent for future Presidents to do the same thing when they don’t get their way.  Trump was offered around 25 Billion for the wall during the las Congress and didn’t take it and shame on him.  The red meat base will like it and the liberals will go nuts.  There’s plenty of money out their to pay for the wall but it has to be done through the right channels. When he starts diverting monies from other departments is when the Liberals will use the media to see people doing without and it will work.

It was a total failure for a Republican controlled house and Senate, plus a republican president couldn’t get this done in their 2 budgets together. I just hope the mess at the border gets solved. No matter how. It’s not only about illegals getting in. It’s about the human tolls of them massing at the border, and inability of immigration services in processing them.

Remember back in 2015 when the establishment Republicans were screaming about Trump destroying the Republican Party? Well, this is what it looks like. Neither party wants to solve this problem. The republicans are beholden to the donor class and Trump is exposing them with his immigration agenda.

A state of emergency will be the only way to even begin to fix this cluster. It will go to the Supreme Court as I’m sure that some activist circuit court judge will shoot it down.

So the Republicans go from “King Obama” to Emperor Trump?  We gonna be a Dictatorship by 2021?

So the Republicans go from “King Obama” to Emperor Trump?  We gonna be a Dictatorship by 2021?

As congress becomes more and more partisan, Presidents will become more and more bold to take unilateral actions.  Bill Clinton signed 364 Executive Orders, Bush did 291 and Obama did 276 and Trump is up to 95.  The courts have also become the other avenue to circumvent impotent Congress’ which is why winning the Presidency and the Senate are so important these days because the Courts have become a functional wing of government.

Of course as Presidents take more unilateral actions, talks of Impeachment,  endless political investigations, 25th amendment discussions occur while Congress gets away with doing nothing but stoking the embers of discourse.

I don’t like the state of emergency declaration either. I looked at the history of those, and it’s a joke. Once it’s declared, Congress is supposed to vote later to end it. Congress is so inept that this doesn’t happen often. We currently have something like 30 active emergency declarations going back to the Carter administration with the Iran hostages. Clinton declared 16 and Bush declared 14. Do you remember that many real emergencies during that time? We have one declared to block the property of people threatening Yemen. The declarations may accomplish something good, but it can be concerning from a checks and balances perspective. At the same time though, Congress is dysfunctional.

Plus, the Senate is going to get forced into a vote and all the Republican senators are going to be forced into either supporting the president or standing on principle.

One is the right thing to do and one is a ticket to a primary loss.

BTW, Ill say it again…there is no “emergency” at the border. Illegal crossings are at a 20 year low and dropping. There are literally dozens of more pressing national issues with more dire consequences to face.

This is about the fight and rallying a base with an easy boogeyman, poor brown people who are wanting a better life…its an age old technique that can always get the masses to turn on one another. Im glad you guys are finally realizing that.

I’ve never seen someone so obsessed with a concrete wall before.  It’s actually unbearable.  The thing won’t get built before he gets out of office, it’s a government contract let’s be honest, and it will just be one big giant waste of time and money like it is already and just leave ruins of what they do complete when the next president stops the whole thing.  Our whole government is a joke.  It’s so tiring.

I can promise you Trump will not be president if it was ever finished.  He likely won’t be alive by the time it did finish.  Government construction is SLOW AS HELL even when they have funding.

Golf time this weekend…it’s what leaders do when you have to lead the country through a “national emergency”  That and “executive time.” Many of us know it as watching TV.

Lol…what a joke. Of course the last laugh is gonna be on all the milcon and veterans programs that are about to be robbed blind.

It’s all about supporting the troops. LMFAO.

Uh oh. I’m in agreement with Ann Coulter, author of the most recent shutdown.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsweek.com/ann-coulter-national-emergency-donald-trump-idiot-1333462?amp=1

“The only national emergency is that our president is an idiot.”
Been saying it for several years now Ann.

“No, the goal of the emergency is for Trump to scam the stupidest people in his base for 2 more years.”

Duh, he’s a conman. That’s what they do. My question is you are a smart lady, why’d it take you this long to figure that out and can you help me make the rest of the “rubes” as you say understand the obvious?

Something tells me Ann is about to go to the island of misfit Republicans with George Conway and George Will and all the other conservative braintrust. No room for thought on team Trump. Plenty of room for commiting felonies though.

But, But, But emails.

Looks like Obama declared 9.  I found a good link to all of the National Emergencies to offer some perspective:

Interesting read.  You can come to you own conclusions and compare Trumps Emergency to others from the past.

It looks like the Senate is going to vote to not allow Trumps State of Emergency Declaration. The President in turn will Veto the Congressional decision and there are not enough votes to override.  It will then be sent to the courts and we will see.

The Senate had no choice because they didn’t get the job done when the the GOP had both Houses of congress and this vote is more symbolic to save face.

This is going to set a precedent in the future for other Presidents to use this same maneuver to advance any agenda that can’t get worked through congress.  The next time it won’t necessarily be money for a pet project. It could be something that affects the fundamental rights of the citizens.

Well, unlike you I will actually complain about the party I vote for when I don’t like what’s happening.  I have a feeling the Roberts Court might rule Trump’s actions are not Constitutional and I would be fine with that.
