Yes because 2008 was just another run of the mill recession…notice no industrialized country is doing better than the US? Must be nice to compare against ideals, some of us live in reality though and our economy is the envy of the world.

As to the military covering things up, nothing occurring today compares to Vietnam.

You need some historic perspective on both accounts.

I never said it was, and that’s not the point. I was saying that though things may not be as bad as some say, they also aren’t as rosy as some say. That doesn’t require any comparison to any other point in history. It’s simply about what people say about current circumstances.

Again, the comparison is irrelevant, but if you want to include it, it makes my point. It was a point to say, as above, that the people that “know more than us (remember that standard you raised to determine credibility?) aren’t necessarily giving us the accurate picture. I’m glad to see you agree and can concede that this has been the case.

SoPinesHeel - 11 August 2016 05:17 PM

My perspective may prove to be historic, but I think you were trying to include a historical perspective, which has nothing to do with the point. If it did, I would have included it. However, you don’t seem to be bound by the topics of conversations, so you ran with it.

I know you seem to think that just because you say something is irrelevant, it is. Nothing I said is irrelevant. You obviously just have problems seeing the relevance.

Again for those of us who live in reality, historical perspective can tell you a lot about how severe or outlandish something is.

Have you ever been in the military? If not then once again defer to someone who knows more than you and irrelevant describes your opinion on the matter. If you had been you might know that the military is not designed to nation build and its metrics do not necessarily give an accurate picture of what civilian leadership is asking it to do. Our military has plenty of ills but compared to EVERY OTHER MILITARY IN THE WORLD it is extremely open to the point of giving away stuff to the bad guys.

Comparisons and perspective matter.

Speaking of irrelevant….Wow! The comparison that was being discussed is the comparison of what people say about current circumstances compared to the facts of the current circumstances. In fact, it was you that steered the conversation that way when you talked about Republicans etc. stirring things up. I said it probably isn’t as bad as people say and then I used the CENTCOM story to show they also aren’t as good as some people say. That was the point and the context to which you inserted your historic response discussing Vietnam and what it would take to win this war. That doesn’t matter to the point, which again was about the story from government versus the facts of the current situation. Unreal!

That’s a great story…thanks for sharing.

Once again, no one is saying things are perfect but when they are better than everyone else then they are pretty good.

I guess the answer to my question posed is no.

Ah, I see. You’re used to story books.

Still not the point.

The answer is that your question wasn’t relevant to the discussion in this thread so I chose not to be distracted by it. Since lately I’m educating you on the logical fallacies that build your arguments, you’ve introduced a red herring this time.

So, you never served in the military…are you a police officer in any way shape or form? How about a doctor or a da or public defender? Emt? Teacher?

Oh and I forgot that your claim that we agree that somehow Comey and distortions of reality from the military in Vietnam are somehow the same thing…BS. It doesn’t make your point at all. Comey had to present a decision he knew would be scrutinized because Congressional Republicans were looking for a political victory therefore I take it as being credible because of the pressure and scrutiny. Vietnam was sold to a naive public…kind of like Iraq. Not the same thing, or in your parlance…Irrelevant.

This is great! I pointed out flaws in your points, so now you’re fishing for information on me because you want to attack me as the messenger but don’t know how.

The connection was that you assigned credibility to someone based on their having more knowledge of the situation than you, and I provided an example where that would lead you to believe conveyed information that was inaccurate for political purposes. If you don’t accept that, that’s fine.

Not fishing, just wondering what your background of expertise is. I mean you are an expert right?

I don’t accept your example either because the example is not the same situation.

Alright, peace making time. I went back and reread the thread and I admit I misread what your point was using the military thing. I was bouncing around in the back of a hotel van in traffic and trying to read the board on my phone.
I still disagree with all of your assertions of relevance though.

Like many of us, I may be considered an expert in some things and certainly not others.

Fair enough.

I credit you for making the admission. That rarely happens in online discussions. I’ve certainly misread people’s posts as well.

You’re welcome to disagree. That’s certainly your choice. I do wonder how you would disagree with all when you admit that you were responding to a different point, but okay, I won’t be picky.

“The Republican Party and conservative talk radio have become masters at whipping up a frenzy of white males, who no longer get to run everything and get every job and every advantage,” Pines

That is what the masses are lead to believe but only white males who took the faustian bargain have ever had any political power in America.

Even George Washington was a white hall mason and usurped the revolution. The constitution was designed make it appear America was no longer subject to the crown and the vatican, but it does not. One needs to read the fine print.

I try to keep an open mind to things…and am certainly willing to believe in nefarious attempts to control things from behind the scenes…but a few of these are a bridge too far for me.
