We are in a big hole right now because of the Democratic morons in Congress who don’t understand the concept of rugged individualism.  Yes, the morons like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd who demanded that loans be given to slackers, to people who had NO MEANS whatsoever of paying them back so we could be fair.

Because after all, everyone deserves to own their own home.  It’s a right.  Don’t worry about working to earn what you have because the benevolent central government will give it to you while you make more babies for the government to care of.  And don’t worry about how to pay for it - the benevolent central government will just take it away from the people who earned it and give it those who are too lazy to earn the money themselves.

Do you understand that one of the primary purposes of the federal government is to PROTECT its citizens?  To keep us safe?  From things like the “crap in Iraq”?  It is not to give us money or stuff.

I lived overseas for three plus years.  Where have you been?

And on another note, how many military people do you know?  And how many funerals have you been to for AMERICAN HEROES who have laid down their lives for Freedom and to protect us?  I’ve been to more than two dozen funerals for these heroes - true American patriots who understood and believed in the fight in Iraq and in Afghanistan.  People who have died to give you the right to spew the garbage you have been saying in these posts.  I completely understand why we have fought the fight in Iraq and I support it completely.  I thank God that we had leadership in this country who had to courage to fight and the spine to stand up to fanatical Islamic terrorism.  And I thank God every day that this country has not had another terrorist attack on our shores since 9-11.  So you can thank every soldier in uniform for that blessing and not spew liberal trash about wasting our money and efforts in Iraq.  Over 3,000 Gold Star families would thank you for keeping that rot to yourself!!

I thought the word “government” was rooted in the phrase “to govern”.  Besides, who said they should give us money?  I’m talking about domestic projects, like schools and roads—big evils, I know.  But speaking of spreading the wealth, since you bring it up—as I look at the CNN election map and see all the southern red states… what do these states really contribute to the country except rampant overconsumerism and bad votes?  California, for example—a blue state—has the ninth largest economy in the world.  Who do you think is benefitting from that?... everyone else.  Take away the blue states, and there really is nothing left to write home about.  The last people who should be crying about spreading the wealth are the ones from states who are siphoning it.

As a veteran, I believe I have the right to say whatever the hell I want about it.  I lived it, but not to protect self-absorbed douches like you.  And, by the way, the amount of “heroism” I’ve seen was very minimal compared to the amount of “it’s a job” and “this is some sh—”.  So save it for the uninitiated.

Do you feel better about yourself now that you’ve insulted me?  I support every American soldier and veteran and if I ever met you I would shake your hand and thank you for your service to our great country.

Wow i don’t even know what to say to this thread anymore… I simply came in peace and pointed out something and got told to screw myself.. hahahah   And then putting down the south with non contribution and wasted votes.. hahahahaha…  Typical… and you wonder why we dont’ vote blue?  haha… Thanks for posting fiercy again i tried to be civil but i guess I will go have some fun fornicating with myself….

Well, you kinda came in peace and called me a name.  smile

Sorry guys, this issue, our next President, I feel is a very important one.  I have a 7-year-old and his future in this country is of paramount concern to me.  The place is going to hell in a handbasket quick if you haven’t noticed, and I feel guilty guilty guilty for voting party lines and casting mine for Republican the last two elections.  It’s time for all of us to wake up.

People talk about “provide for yourself” and I have been socking away every dime into 401k trying to do just that and then see it drop by $240,000 in one single day a few weeks ago because of what is outright thievery as far as I’m concerned, forces beyond my control, by the current administration just squandering away every aspect of our wealth and I don’t think they really care.

I don’t see how people try to pin the current economic crisis on Bush when it was the Clinton administration in 98/99 that basically forced Fannie and Freddy to loosen their lending standards.

Not to mention he has no control over the Federal Reserve’s actions.

Did anyone listen to Barney Frank and the Dems defending Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac a couple of years ago?  The blame for this lies with Congress and with Clinton but it goes back originally to Jimmy Carter who started this whole mess.  And the Republicans in Congress are JUST as guilty for allowing it to happen.  If I had my way, we would throw all of them out, Republican and Democrat and start completely over.  There are many things that Bush has done and has not done that have upset me.  I am a staunch conservative and he is not.  But I do have to give him credit for keeping me and my family safe.

I, too, Fiercy have children and hopefully will have grandchildren one day and I want a better country for them.  But I value freedom and individual responsbility and having listened to and studied Barrack Obama’s policies, stands, and record over the past year, I am not convinced that he does.  He seems to feel that big government is the answer to everyone’s problems.  McCain was not my choice, but I think he is the better of two not-so-good choices.  And I do believe McCain has a better fundamental understanding of the dangerous world we live in and that he has the experience and background that is more suited to deal with that danger.

And, Fiercy, I agree with you, economically, this country is in a mess and that’s scary.  But Obama has promised the moon and more with no explanation as to how he is going to pay for it except to tax the wealthy and small businessmen making more that 250,000 or whatever the number is this week.  And those taxes will be passed to your family and mine by way of more expensive goods and services making what we need to buy more expensive.

So this presidential election is very important to me, too.  And the ongoing war on terror is very important to me.  And I am afraid that many of our citizens have forgotten why we are fighting it.  And that is terrifying.

TBE, as the Dawgs like to say,  just wait ‘till next year.  I’ll wait to see how happy you are with the state of our country in about a year after The One takes office.

John McCain…. more of the same Bush/Chaney falsehoods, lies and misgivings.

John McCain and the Keating Five, What Every Voter MUST Know

During the 2000 Republican Presidential Primaries, Slate.com writer Chris Suellentrop wrote an excellent in-depth feature article about John McCain and his role in the Keating Five. This is a must read article for every American, especially for anyone who thinks John McCainis a hero.

Two Important things to know before you read the article:

1. John McCain admitted to intentionally filing false income tax returns to defraud the IRS by not claiming thousands of dollars in gifts McCain and his family received from Charles Keating and Keating’s company. Years later, when the IRS noticed Keating’s company had written off the gifts to McCain as business expenses, McCain fessed up and admitted filing false returns and made a “donation” to the U.S. Treasury to cover the amount he defrauded American tax payers. (Committing tax fraud is one of the least offensive things John McCain has done over his career, but this article just focuses on his role in the Keating Five, and the Lincoln Savings and Loan scandal of the late 1980’s-early 1990’s). McCain also leaked information about the Keating Five to the press multiple times in an effort to appear above the other Senators in the scandal. A 1989 Phoenix New Times article summed it up best with their title - McCain: The Most Reprehensible of the Keating Five.

2. John McCain’s wife, Cindy McCain, along with her father, made a $359,000 investment in retail property owned by Charles Keating in 1986, a year before John McCain first met with federal regulators on behalf of Keating. Keating was later convicted on 73 counts of fraud, conspiracy, and other crimes. Years later, Cindy McCain sold her investment for $15,000,000.

For anyone not aware of the Keating Five, here’s a very simple summary:

Charles Keating owned a savings and loan in California. He was illegally using the money of his bank’s customers to give loans to himself and friends that they didn’t have to repay, and to speculate on risky real estate investments, which was strictly forbidden by U.S. law (and was one cause of the Great Depression).

When the feds found out what was going on and launched an investigation into Keating and his company, Keating called five U.S. Senators whom he had wined, dined, and lavished with hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign donations and personal gifts.

Keating asked the five Senators to tell the feds to bug off, and the five Senators, later known as the Keating Five, obliged, meeting with federal investigators twice and pressuring them to stop investigating Keating’s crimes. They bought Keating some time, but the feds didn’t give up and eventually Keating was nailed. The reason the feds were so persistent was because Keating wasn’t playing with mere chump change. Keating blew $3.4 billion through illegal personal loans and bad investments, and the FDIC had to reimburse Keating’s customers who had been ripped off.

(Background Info - Keating wasn’t the only Savings and Loan owner who was committing fraud, 20% of the S&L;’s that failed during that three year period were found to have been caused by fraud and/or insider trading. The failure of the Lincoln Savings and Loan and other S&L;’s pushed the country into a recession, costing the U.S. government $126 billion dollars in FDIC insurance payouts to investors. All of this came to a crescendo during the first year of the presidency of George H.W. Bush, who pushed through the S&L;bailout plan to keep the economy afloat.)

When the involvement of the Keating Five was made public, a scandal erupted and the Senate Ethics Committee launched their own investigation into whether the Keating Five had violated Senate ethics rules. The other four Senators left office either immediately or within one term. John McCain was formally rebuked by the Senate Ethics Committee for exercising “poor judgment” for intervening with the federal regulators on behalf of Keating, but because McCain accepted Keating’s gifts of travel and vacations to Bahama while McCain was a member of the House of Representatives (he served one term there before moving to the Senate), the Senate claimed they had no jurisdiction to censure McCain. (However the meetings to pressure federal regulators occurred during the first few months of McCain serving in the Senate in 1987, so that excuse doesn’t hold up)

John McCain then went back to the drawing board and re-invented himself as “the Straight-Talk Express” and the media gobbled it up. “Tax-Evading-Criminal” doesn’t sound as catchy as “Straight-Shooting-War-Hero”.

Ever since the scandal, when McCain lies today, it’s never questioned, because he’s a “straight talker”. The man has more skeletons in his closet than any politician in history. The Keating Five is just one bone.

Once again, TBE, TBE, as the Dawgs like to say, just wait ‘till next year.  I’ll wait to see how happy you are with the state of our country in about a year after The One takes office.  McCain might just look like a saint to you in a year.
