This is a big deal.  I’m sure lawmakers from both sides of the political aisle are secretly happy this is happening.

Google, Facebook and Twitter have too much control over the flow of information.  They now have control of what they deem is fact and opinion censor anything against their agenda.  They need to be regulated heavily or broken up.  This is a more dangerous than losing a election.

Yes..I said the “R” word on this one topic.

This is definitely a big deal and will be interesting to see how this plays out. It’s likely to be very long and drawn out.

I haven’t read up on it but they said this isn’t a big deal for google on the radio.  They gained 1.38% today.  Radio said they’ve been through several of these and come out unscathed.

The fact that you think the government will do a better job of regulating Google/the internet is laughable.  Have you watched any of the videos of FB or Google testifying to congress?  It’s absolutely pathetic.  Most of Congress is too old and stupid to know even basic things about the internet.  The inner workings of giants like Google are literally beyond the mental reach of anyone I’ve seen in Congress.  IMO one of the US’s biggest failures is how we adapt to the age of information and who we put in charge of it.

IMO congress doesn’t have the right to do anything about censorship as these are private entities who have complete control over how their product is used.  They should only focus on privacy concerns.

“They now have control of what they deem is fact and opinion censor anything against their agenda”.  As if Trump doesn’t continuously lie to the people?  So you want the serial liars that are more partisan than they’ve ever been to regulate the internet?  Yea what could go wrong?  OH CHINA, NORTH KOREA, RUSSIA.

In terms of the Antitrust portion, which is likely the only thing the government might be able to take a swing at, it will be tough going.  You can break google up a bit but it probably wouldn’t open up lots of gaps for competition.  They already have a great name and that consumer trust keeps the market a monopoly.  The fact that much of their product is free will make it harder to attack them.

It’s ironic that they mention “starving” BING considering it’s a part of Microsoft who has 2 browsers that try to force people to Bing.

The fact of the matter is that these companies have won the popularity contest and people won’t leave them because the government is scared of their power.  The fact that they don’t understand the internet makes them even more afraid.

Well..This example is a good public forum for the voters to decide what our elected officials are doing.

Perhaps if we could pull the curtain back from the Tech companies and see if it makes a difference.

It sounds like you are want a small handful of billionaire oligarchs calling the shots.

Do you think Bezos should be allowed to publish whatever he wants on his newspaper?  Isn’t that his right?

From what I’ve gathered most of the suit is centered around Google Search having too much of the market share.  They set themselves up with phone/computer manufacturers to be the default search engine.  Even if you prevent google from making these deals do you think users won’t make this one of the first changes they make after buying the tech?  Most computer literate people will set up their browser and engine on their first day with new tech.  When they do it will likely be Chrome/Google with EE/Edge/Bing taking up the large majority of the scraps.  What is the end result for the DOJ here?  Decreasing consumer satisfaction?
