I’ll let the news speak for itself

CNN:

https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/11/americas/cuba-protests/index.html

Daily Mail:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9778551/Thousands-protesters-streets-Cuba.html

FoxNews

https://www.foxnews.com/world/cuban-anti-government-protesters-wave-american-flags-during-march

NBC News

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/-are-no-longer-afraid-thousands-cubans-protest-government-rcna1386

That’s a good mix.

Interesting how people in Cuba want what America has and the people protesting in America want what Cuba has.

The Squad and Bernie are silent on this matter,  The Biden Administration has a great opportunity to help Cuba become a democracy if they are willing to break away from the far left socialist/communist liberals that have hijacked the party.

The Republicans will pounce on this issue “bigly”.

Some people definitely take our freedoms for granted. It puts it in perspective when people are willing to make a crossing of some big water on a raft to get to our shore. Now we have these people, just to our south, risking their lives in the streets to fight for what we have in this country. I hope they get the momentum and support they need to reach their goal of freedom in that country.

If civil war breaks out I don’t see how the US can sit on the sidelines.  Not only is Cuba 90 miles off the US we have a huge Cuban-American population that will demand US intervention.  We don’t need a Tiananmen Square repeat play out so Close to the US.

This could certainly go that way. There have been government crackdowns, and the people are continuing to demonstrate in spots all across the island. The government that’s in place now doesn’t have the same power of history that the Castro regimes had and is probably more fragile.

The Cuban population in the US is already demanding support for the Cuban people. If this lasts, that will certainly grow louder. It’ll be interesting to see the approach the administration takes on if and how to help.

I’m very disappointed that the DHS is telling fleeing Cubans and Haitians that they won’t be allowed in the US and the Coast Guard will be patrolling.

I remember the Cubans fleeing under Carter and he let them in.  They have no problem letting people in from the Mexican boarder but not Cuba? Biden has an opportunity to knock one out of the park and be the President that helped to free Cuba….Looks like they don’t want that to happen.

The response is interesting. The Cuban people that would flee have a claim that’s more consistent with asylum laws than those coming across the southern border.  I would like to hear the rationale. It seems it would indeed be a big win for Biden - in most circles anyway.

The Cuban President got on TV and acknowledged the governments “shortcomings”

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9790165/Cubas-president-says-government-blame-protests.html

I think this tells how weak this government is.  In the days of Castro with the boot of the Soviet Union these kind of things wouldn’t happen.

This article touches on the US Governments unwillingness to promoted the movement.

Literally all of my life one of the big goals of the US was to topple Castro’s Cuba and the opportunity has never been better to slam dunk this.  The people are in the streets and I’m pretty sure the Russian’s have jettisoned supporting Cuba beyond lip service.

The people running this government looked at Casto’s Cuba as their model of how they wanted to transform the US and to see it crumble on their watch puts them in a very difficult position.  They can’t support an “Insurrection” of Cubans wanting freedom because they’ve misused for the Jan 6th protests.

I commend Biden for directly answering the question about Communism and Socialism.  He was direct and firm stating they were failed ideologies.  It’s late but I understand he’s getting heat from the Bernie Sanders/AOC wing of the Democrat party.  He needs more of this. Now that he’s said the words it’s time to see how he acts.

I agree. I was glad to see him say that. It was a much stronger statement than he had made in the past. It also seems to defeat the praise we kept hearing about their healthcare system in recent years.

I like the idea of bringing them internet if it’s something we can do. That would keep it alive if they can communicate better. I wonder what kind of support we’re providing covertly.

Here’s the next part of the crackdown from the Cuban government.
After historic protests, defiant Cubans face mass trials

Following the most widespread protests since Fidel Castro’s 1959 revolution, Cubans are now bracing themselves for a new aftershock poised to shake the communist-run island: Mass trials of those who dared to take to the streets calling for change.

Fewer than three weeks since the beginning of the unprecedented anti-government demonstrations, the trials are already underway. Not surprisingly, those proceedings are leading to swift convictions.

I really feel for the Cubans on the street suffering due to backwards looking leaders. Hopefully one day they can experience true freedom.
