There is a story out there that FSU and Clemson have reached out to the SEC about possible membership.  I hope this is just a rumor.  I really have no desire to be an SEC zombie.

The Clemson/FSU thing was refuted at least by Clemson. Texas and OU paying $30 million each is one thing. $500 million is another thing. That’s the estimated fee to leave the ACC with the GOR as it is now. The ACC just needs FSU and Miami to play to their potential. Along with VT. UNC getting better is just a bonus. If those, along with say Pitt or NSCU could improve, the ACC would be as good as any other conference. It’s not the ACC’s fault. The the teams there in. Schools need to prioritize football.

I’m certainly no expert in contractual law, but I have to wonder if there are loopholes that would allow a team a way out of the deal since the landscape of college football is changing so drastically.  This GOR is essentially outdated based on the NIL and the transfer rule.

Also, Maryland was able to get a negotiated buyout so I would think that could happen if push came to shove.

Also, I would imagine the GOR would go away if the ACC folded up.

I would much rather see the league get stronger than see it break up.  That would be a real shame.

I would guess that’s just a rumor at this point. I don’t know about FSU, but I think the administration at Clemson is committed to the ACC. Of course, that depends on the ACC being healthy.

I don’t think ND is going to join the conference full time. I don’t see many others out there that would be likely and be a real plus right now.

Clemson and FSU are football schools in a basketball conference that is run by UNC and Duke.

Right now Clemson has an easy path to the playoffs with a weak ACC schedule. With the playoff expansion Clemson (and FSU) could play a much tougher SEC schedule and still make the playoffs.

Maryland got out and if Clemson and FSU want out it will happen. A 10 year GOR is unreasonable and irresponsible with the fast changing college athletic landscape and will be challenged.

Personally I think Clemson and FSU are a better fit in the SEC and would love to have them.

The traditional side of me wants to stay in the ACC.  Clemson is a founding member. Loyalty doesn’t seem to matter so much anymore.

I would be lying if I wasn’t intrigued by playing SEC teams, but I think there is a real chance that parody will be a real problem in the league once they get up to16+ teams.

It looks like the Pac 12 a nd Big 12 are going to talk.  Maybe a scheduling alliance or maybe a merger.  If It becomes a merger, that gets Texas and OU of the GOR hook if it folds before 2025.  I’m not sure all remaining Big 12 teams would want to go west and deal with pacific time zone kickoff.  I would wager programs like Kansas, K-State and Iowa State and WVa ask the ACC for membership to get into East Coast Kickoffs.

In his preseason press conference Mack Brown was asked about Texas and Oklahoma and said it was not his business. He then went on to say UNC was an AAU school, and spoke to the school’s national brand. He also said he had spoken to the AD.  He said he really wanted the ACC, but if it came to it UNC would be fine. Sounded like it’s been discussed, and the Big10 has told UNC the welcome mat is present.
