Lacrosse is a solid sport.  You have know idea how hard the ball used hurts when it catches you mid-thigh.

I too used to play smear the (homophobic slur) and have frequently compared rugby to that sport..ha ha

I just think American football, basketball and baseball are so big that these other sports will never be more than a niche sport.

Personally, wrestling is my favorite Olympic sport but title 9 forced a many colleges to kill the sport. Even the IOC has tried to kill wrestling for the Olympics and that would have been a shame because Tamyra Mensah-Stock winning the gold in women’s freestyle wrestling at Tokyo Olympics was one of the best performances in any sport.

I don’t think we said queer to mean gay people when it was a kid. We just said it to mean whomever had the ball.

I don’t get worried about all that stuff. I admit my kids do but to me it is the intention behind the word not the word itself.

For us “queer” was like calling someone a sissy, pansie or something along those lines.

I agree. There are a lot of parallels. I’m glad both of those sports are increasing in popularity.
He can rugby into adulthood if he wants. You may want him to skip the rugby parties though.

I hate that wrestling has been taken away at so many places.
I don’t think we meant anything bad when we played smear the queen. It was innocent. They would probably get in trouble these days though.

No I want to go to those parties with him or at least live vicariously through him…Lol.

With the big military crowd around me there is a big rugby presence here. I watched the men practice in the field near my house and some of them were literally running with beers in their hands as they played. Lol.

Never seen that one. Lol

Yeah, military areas tend to have a lot of it. Kegs on the sidelines isn’t rare, but I’ve never seen beer in hand on the field. That’s a solid effort.

The parties can certainly be an interesting cultural experience…..

I think it would dig the foreign crowd a bit more. They say soccer is the gentleman’s game played by hooligans and rugby is the hooligan’s game played by gentlemen.

I’d like to meet some of these supposed gentlemen. By the looks on tv they seem a lot closer to the football types than the Royal types.

I’ve been around a little of rugby. There are a lot of people I would call principled or moral, not so sure about gentlemen.

I’m sure. Definitely look like tough dudes on Peacock. It’s funny it’s all the Commonwealth nations and the France. Funny how the historic enemy of England plays its sport. Kinda like the Soviets playing basketball I guess.
