According to ESPN and 247 sports, Malzahn got fired. Who will Auburn go for after the $21 million buyout (my guess that’s negotiated down somehow)?

It’s amazing how Saban has ruined the coaching profession in the SEC. If I was a potential HC going into one of the upper level jobs in that league I wouldn’t take it without the same type of huge buyout the Gus is getting because those fans are nuts!  Hell, Coach O just won a Natty with perhaps the greatest team ever and because most of them graduated or went to the NFL and he’s having a down season the fans are ready to run him out of town…They don’t care about off the field issues as long as you’re winning games.

I don’t think Auburn is a great job right now.  Until Saban retires no coaching job in the SEC is safe unless you are a bottom tier program that just having winning seasons is usually enough.

Saban arrived at Bama in 2007. Since then, there have been 44 different head coaches in the SEC.

You’re right about Auburn, That would be a tough place to go with Saban winning at Bama like he is.

Malzahn will land on his feet and will get a good P5 job when he’s ready. I predict Freeze will be their HC. He’s not afraid of cheating to win and the AU BOT, fans, and President aren’t either.

Agree on both. Most places would be happy with what Malzahn has done particularly given Auburn’s division.

I could certainly see Freeze getting that spot based on the same points you raised. I’m not even sure who the other options are at this point that would even be close.

He would be good at FSU and should keep an eye on that one if Norvell chokes.  I would like to see Gus in the ACC.  VT is on the ropes and he would be an interesting fit there.  GT’s HC won’t last much longer.  That’s another place Gus could be competitive

I think if he goes to the ACC it’ll be FSU. FSU has advantages that GT and VT just do not have. He’ll have them back on track in no time. The ACC really needs someone other than Clemson to be good.

Good point. I’m a Clemson fan more than an ACC fan.

I think he will be picked up quite quickly, partially because there are no obvious alternatives on the market.  Which is why Auburn is in a tricky spot and may have rushed things.  Of course Tom Herman, Smart, Frost, and many more were “can’t miss” coaches that are or are about to be fired.

So, Auburn hired Bryan Harsin from Boise State. While he seems to be a good coach I have to ask the question:  Is this guy a 40+million Head Coach?  I come up with that number as a ballpark considering the 21 Million Buy for Gus plus his coaching staff that most will be gone plus whatever the new contract for Harsin and his stqaff.

I can’t believe Auburn didn’t have a guy immediately ready to insert with the kind of money they are spending.

Auburn is turning into the next FSU it appears as they are letting the boosters run the program.
