I said last week that I thought we would lose this week. I see too many problems with the offense. I don’t think Tony Elliot will get it fixed because there are too many concerns and his formulaic approach is one of them. By the way, that’s not a new concern on my part about him, I’ve had concerns with his approach for a while.
I was talking to a neighbor who’s an NCSU grad. I told him I thought they had a chance of getting us this year, and he responded saying this would probably be when we get it clicking and beat his team by 50. I hope he’s right, but don’t see it happening.
I’m not worried about Dixon going. He’s a talented player, but I don’t think we need any further distractions. I wish we would settle on a starter and get some continuity. I’m also not sold on Ross in the slot, the whole OL, DJ’s accuracy downfield etc.
I do love our defense, even though Davis is now out and Bresee is banged up.
I wouldn’t place money on this game in a straight up, win or lose bet.
There are a lot of problems. A week before the UGA game, they didn’t know who was in what position on the OL. These guys were recruited for a position and have been playing one. How did they not get that settled in fall camp? You can’t have them moving all around and expect to be good enough at the place they land to go compete at the highest levels. We have never had the offensive line be the strength of the team.
I like Tony Elliot and want him to do well. I think he has a lot of fantastic qualities. I have never been a fan of his play calling. It’s like he read a book and if it’s not in that book, it can’t be done. How can we not take a snap under center and get a yard or two with a 250 lb quarterback. I have always been nervous on short yardage because we start 6 yards back and run slow-developing plays. I’ve always been frustrated with him too because apparently his book says that if you’re in the lead at a certain point in the game, you stop running the offense that scored the points and run into the line. We have had many games get close when we had a big lead and the offense stopped what they were doing.
Like you, I’m not sold on DJ at this point. He is clearly talented and can be an asset as a runner because he’s so big and can push forward when he runs. I think your comparison is valid. I have worried about him being like Kelly B. where teams load up and stop the run and short pass and dare him to beat them deep. I don’t think he has a chance of doing that right now.
Dj looks slow and lazy, not as advertised. I’m ready to sell.
Our defense is getting hurt because our offense can’t do jack shit on the field. Literally nothing. I’ve haven’t seen an offense this inept in decades at Clemson. Robbie Caldwell needs to GO, yesterday he’s a trash coach and has been for year. And Elliott is quickly printing his ticket out of town.
I’m about ready to mark this season off already. I’ve seen enough, worst Clemson offensive product in literal decades.

That’s about how I expected this game to go. The offense can’t move the ball and now the defense is banged up. I saw that as of now, the line with BC is we’re giving BC something like 14.5 points. I don’t know how they see us scoring enough to win like that.
That’s a good question and a lot of people are asking the same thing. I don’t think he will, at least not for a while. I think he is very focused on the culture and building relationships and would worry about the impact that bringing in people like that might have on the relationships and team culture. He has said he wants to see the impact it has on other teams which makes it sound like something they would consider at some point in the future, but I don’t think we’ll see it soon. Something needs to happen though, the offense is bad right now, and now the defense is banged up.
One thing that Dabo was really good at in his early days was his ability to understand the landscape of college football and get ahead of many other programs to modernize Clemson Football.
Now the landscape and rules have changed drastically and Dabo had better adapt because people like Lane Kiffin and even Nick Saban are working the portal hard to fill holes. With NIL and the Transfer portal recruiting is literally having to be redefined.
