What happened to the original discussion point? $20 per hour Federal minimum wage? Tlaib will not have to pay this folks. Even if the $15 minimum wage passes, this is what is going to happen. Small businesses will either sharply reduce staff and/or cut hours. Large businesses will find the cost of doing business much less expensive outside of the US.What do I base my opinion on? I am a business owner. The costs of federal, state and unemployment taxes that the employer pays is already high. Increase a minimum wage and you then have to increase the wages of those with tenure. This domino effect will lead to a spike in unemployment or underemployment. This in turn will strain the social welfare systems.  This is a very serious issue and members of Congress, particularly the “squad”, are pandering to a base within their districts with these ill-thought proposals (or worse-well thought out on their part() to get the votes to remain in office.

Pines is notorious for changing the discussion when he doesn’t like to discuss the OP. But I agree with everything you said about the minimum wage.  This proposal is nothing more than a bribe that would wreck our economy and promote even more “under the table” hiring of illegals and others that want to shortcut the system.  The thought of establishing the value of all work is nuts because all jobs aren’t worth the same.  Is a kid ripping tickets at a movie’s theaters job worth the same as a person busting his butt collecting trash all of various neighborhoods?

Good job redirecting the thread. You are correct in your discussion of the impact of such a change. It amazes me that so many people act as though nothing will change except that the minimum wage workers will get a nice raise.

I changed the subject??? Ummm…you really don’t read the thread do you. Of course living in reality and objective fact aren’t your strong suits.

I’ll simply reiterate what I’ve already said. You could raise the federal minimum wage a few bucks tomorrow and have no effect throughout most of the country either because states are already higher or it is so far below the going rate for most jobs anyhow.. For those that would get a raise it would be an instant boost and the rest of the country would not even feel it.

It would be an easy win win but that would mean Democrats would win too. Can’t have that. Party over country as always.

Except that’s not what they proposed…..

If they were serious about making some change instead of trying for some political grandstanding, perhaps they should propose something like what you said, which would have a chance. Instead of a few bucks like you said, they’re proposing more than doubling the minimum wage, and they know that’s not going anywhere. Why would they do that instead of looking out for their constituents and proposing a bill that might have some impact?

Do you understand how legislation works? Before congress became totally dysfunctional with the stupid majority of the majority rules, you set a marker and you compromised on legislation through conference.

The people you should be taking to about that are the people who you vote for. You literally described how the Republican Party has run the show since the Kenyan Muslim took office. Your team broke the scale and refuses to compromise. No surprise that you don’t understand that.

Wouldn’t be great if you could send all the Democrats back to “the countries” they came from and a Native “real” American like you could just make all the decisions? Oh wait, you aren’t a Native American? I’m shocked.

A marker? You have to set something somewhat close or realistic to even start the conversation. When you go that far you priced yourself out of the conversation, have no credibility, and it goes nowhere.

Why not stay on topic? I kept it at a discussion about the tactics of Tlaib.

She could have said 11 bucks and it wouldn’t matter. 0% chance of passing. I didn’t change the topic I directly answered your claim.

It’s weird you keep focusing on one freshman congresswoman. It’s almost like you want to try to claim that because someone says something, everyone on one side has to think it. I mean Donald Trump keeps claiming the “squad” runs the Democratic Party. 4 freshman who just coincidentally aren’t white. Got to scare the “real” Americans right?

I mean it’s obvious that the Republican Party is the party of Steve King right? He speaks for every Republican. Oh wait…bad example. That one might actually be correct.

You did answer the claim, it’s the rest of the attempt to make it a racial point that’s off topic - and by insinuating that I’m saying something about Kenya and sending everyone back. “It’s almost like you want to try to claim that because someone says something, everyone on one side has to think it.”

Yeah cause it has nothing to do with her…lol. So stupid.

If only you had had a chance to disavow it I might think differently. If only…

It did have to do with her, but I didn’t say it and that’s not the topic here.

I already said it was dumb thing to say, in the thread on that topic, yet here you are - so no, you would not think differently.

Since I started the thread, if any politician wanted a 20 Minimum wage I would have an issue.  If women and people of color wanted to be treated equal then they have to take the incoming fire if they make wild ass claims.  It’s almost as it you can only take issue with people of the same sex and color or you are deemed a racist.

Since we are on wild ass proposals, Kirsten Gillibrand is want a 10 Trillion dollar Climate Change deal that equally nuts….

So I guess since she’s white that makes me sexist I guess….

And Alabama and other republican states are banning abortion that is guaranteed legal. Remember when you were the party of laws?
Your party long ago claimed the nuts mantle…so yes I see why you want to distract and stoke the fear of the “other”

As to calling Trump’s statement dumb, you only criticized it after you were called out and you qualified it and still try to defend it. Zero credit given. So you are right…I don’t think differently. Same old POS I always thought you were.

Trying to get credit when you have to be promoted to disavow hatred spewed from the White House. Lol…that how low you have sunk. LMFAO….the party of Steve King.

Now, now…. You sound like you’re starting to get upset. Remember that your wife said that wasn’t good for you. I would hate for her to put you in the corner again.

TLDR but $20/hr is obviously too high.  $10/hr probably makes more sense as the wage hasn’t seemed to come close to catching up with the market.

Bawhahahahah…you think reminding you of the POS freeloader you are makes me upset? Nah. You give yourself waaaay too much credit. But again, you are a Trumpster so reality and objective truth are not your strong suit.
