https://www.foxnews.com/tech/space-force-looking-for-ideas-on-what-it-should-call-its-members

“The U.S. Space Force is looking for feedback from U.S. military space professionals on what Space Force members should be called – similar to how the Air Force refers to its members as ‘Airmen’ or the Army refers to its members as ‘Soldiers,’” the Space Force wrote in a statement on its website.

With all of the sci-fi movies, books and TV shows there ought to be something out there to call them.

It’s going to be tricky to come up with something both tasteful and not silly-sounding.

I’ll suggest “Spacer”..kinda of a play on “Sailor”.

You might get absorbed into the US Space Force one day.

No I won’t but maybe my son will. It is about 30-40 years early but Republicans are for big unnecessary bureaucracy now…at least if the dear leader is for it.

It’s embarrassing that it will be associated with the Air Force. Instead the Air Force could have just morphed into it over time. There was nothing wrong with the previous setup.

It does the space service no favors either. I actually feel bad for them.

I would love to see some of the ideas that get submitted. It reminds me of when Ole Miss decided to change mascots from Colonel Reb and wanted the students to vote. Admiral Ackbar was in the early lead.

Right. It’s a joke and I feel bad for what should be a serious endeavor.

One more thing fucked up that wasn’t broke.

God it’s so embarrassing.

It wasn’t that bad of a name….LOL

While I actually agree with you as to questioning the need to create a separate branch of the military there really wasn’t a ton of strong opposition that I read of.  I’m sure there was but no one was rioting in the streets or working the news shows in opposition on any large level.

When I was in the Air Force US Space Command pretty much handled Space related matters and I don’t understand why all of these matters that will fall under the US Space Force couldn’t continue under an expanded version of USAF Space Command.

With that said it’s happening and no need to dwell on it.

I’m guessing once they have a significant leadership structure in place of both officer and NCO from the poaching of all branches the will start some type of basic training which I’m guessing will be a Lackland with the Air Force.

We’ll see how it plays out.  No choice.

Also..Being a Space Program Geek, It’s hard to be objective If I was a teenager I would be spun up to get in to this branch.

It could have and the Air Force didn’t want it. This was the brain child of the north Alabama congressional delegation and then Trump realized he could get some publicity out of it.

It will go down kind of like Nixon creating the EPA. He was a crook but he did a few other things too.

Trust me. Everyone in the service is laughing at them. It’s a joke and it’s embarrassing.
Nerd Corps, Star Trek,  Star Wars…they are being made fun of.

It should be serious but it is about two decades too early.

Looks like USSF has their first top NCO.  No surprise he was the top Chief from Space Command:

As I said, it’s happening so I’m not going to dwell on should it have been done.  I’m interested in how it’s going to be built.  What type of rank structure will they have?  It would be too easy to mimic the USAF rank structure.  I wonder if they would bring back warrant officers? That’s the one thing I wished the Air Force had no done away with.  What type of uniforms will they wear?

As far as a symbol, you can’t go wrong with a field of stars, and somehow the stars and stripes being incorporated.
