Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her band of merry socialist are proud that they stood up to the richest man on the planet and are telling everyone.  Unfortunately she and doesn’t understand the difference in 3 Billion in tax incentives and NY writing a check for Amazon to move in.  So AOC created a shit storm and Amazon said screw you NY. If they can’t control this rookie congressman there are 49 other states that would gladly have Amazons HQ.  It’s not just the 25,000 jobs lost, it’s the other jobs that will be created the establishment of the HQ in the area.

The Establishment Democrats and the Liberal media are already turning on AOC.  They are seeing how toxic and selfish this woman is and Pelosi apparently can’t control her.

The refreshing thing about AOC and her lot is finally we are hearing the truth of what these people stand for.  They are anti-capitalism and anti-American.

All Republicans have to do is just sit back and watch.  They are doing a fine job of tearing themselves apart without GOP influence.

The city council got left out of the decision too, so they flexed their muscles also.

I’m not saying I agree or disagree, but you think it is right for the wealthiest man in America and one, if not the most, wealthy and powerful companies in the world to get subsidized by tax payers?

How come you didn’t post about how when Republicans in NC ran off the film industry in Wilmington that was booming. They were against corporate “welfare” and it moved all the way to…Georgia, you know that liberal bastion. I guess that was okay because it was a bunch of “hollywood types” and “gays” which was what some of our enlightened legislators said at the time.

I recently read Amazon has not paid federal taxes in 2 years. I have no real opinion on the leaving NY issue. The issue of wealth, etc does not mean much to me. He made it, so good for him. That said, his company makes mad money, and is a for profit place. They should pay taxes.

I mean, I don’t blame Amazon for bypassing certain parties and I am definitely not surprised.  I get it, there is usually a chain of command, or procedural work through you have to endure for these things….but at the same time you will be dealing with unreasonable parties.  Local politicians will want the world, Amazon can’t give them the world and the fountain of youth for re-election, they’ll butt heads for who knows how long and the project will be scrapped anyway.  At the same time does anyone think Amazon is a real person with real feelings??  Let’s be honest with ourselves here.  They are one of the largest companies in the world and quickly heading to #1.  They are not stopping or slowing down and Bezos/Amazon has it’s finger in much more than a shopping website.  They didn’t get there playing nice.  To think that they are down to have a friendly little tea date to entertain a local politician that thinks they should be sitting in the US Congress instead of a local state house is just plain naive, or better yet a city councilmember.

In the end I can’t help but feel like NY will miss Amazon more than Amazon misses NY.  Book it.

Book it haha pun intended?

Anyway I’m in construction and it is common place for major businesses that are making huge capital investments $500M+ to get huge incentive packages including operational tax breaks, tax free construction materials, free county/state provided training facilities ($10M+ facilities), expedited permitting and inspections, zoning power, greatly reduced utility rates, infrastructure upgrades (new intersections, roads, rail lines, interstate exchanges, etc), and I’m sure there’s more I’m missing.  Some of the perks cost the county/state/feds 100’s of millions of dollars.  Rail lines and exchanges are multi year projects that can cost well over $100M.  I’ve seen most of this first hand building for the owners and counties.  The big question is how well did the politicians do with their negotiation?  It’s something that I feel is rarely or never discussed as most of these major moves bring lots of jobs and everyone loves jobs.  I would say there are at least 10 businesses in Charleston alone that got these kind of perks.

Amazon HQ2 is one of if not the biggest capital investment that has ever been made in the US.  They held a bidding war for years trying to figure out where to go.  They will not miss New York as ever other city in the country still wants a piece.

I think the real question is why you didn’t post this since it is obviously meaningful to you?  As I said, I start the majority of the discussions here and would welcome others to do so.  I live in Savannah and they are always shooting movies around here for what it’s worth.

Yes and the walking dead and a host of other tv shows have been shot in Georgia in the past few years because the Republican legislature in NC ran the film industry out of Wilmington. At one point NC was the second largest filming state in the country. Shows like Dawson’s Creek, Revolution, Eastbound and Down and a host of movies used to be shot around Wilmington and there were several studio lots. Not anymore. I think it is because Republicans are pro business.

I don’t post one sided crap because I’m not a hypocrite trying to claim one side is bad and your side is good. You only post stuff from your “my team is good” perspective and I simply call you out for it. But you don’t watch Fox News right?

Wait I thought I was on ignore anyway? You just can’t quit me can you.

Clem, AOC and these rookie socialist in congress are about to get a lesson.  You don’t shit on a monster like Amazon and get away with it. What this guy doesn’t own is because he doesn’t want it.  He owns an influential newspaper and I’m sure he’s going to sick his reports on these people to hurt them politically.  People like Bezos will undoubtedly squeeze a lot of people in Washington that want’s his financial and political support to deal with the AOC’s in DC and contain them.  I fully expect the DNC to recruit people to run against these people in their districts and will spend a fortune to get them voted out.
