I thought a dedicated thread to Sanders is time since he’s the front runner.  I watched his 60 minutes interview and if I was a traditional democrat I would be very worried. Not because of Trump or the Republicans but what Sanders will do to the party if elected.

I think his handlers did Sanders a huge disservice by putting him on 60 minutes.  The interview was a gift to the Republicans as it was full of soundbites that will be used against him in the general election and any Senatorial or House candidate that sides with him.

His views on Cuba were not helpful.  He came across as “Yeah Cuba is bad but they can all read”...

He finally admitted his Single Payer Medical is going to be around 30 Trillion but wouldn’t put a number on his other programs like the free college…Oh yeah..he added another give away…Universal Childcare from 0-4 years…

As I mentioned in another thread, the liberal media is in panic mode.  MSNBC is really feeling the “Bern”.

Sanders’ popularity is scary beyond this election. The fact that he has so much support shows how far the left has moved from limited government. They used to argue when Republicans attached the label of socialism to them, but they can’t deny it now. He has a lot of support, and the party has lurched to the left, and they don’t know how to put the genie in back in the bottle.

He will be popular beyond this election but if he loses the media and the Democratic party will drown him out and try to squash the socialist movement.  With him being 78 and a heart history I have to wonder about his mortality. Can someone else pick up the torch?  I think someone like AOC could be that person.

I’m interested to see how the DNC handles Sanders this time. His popularity is high among the youth, especially in college or just out. I think that speaks some to the indoctrination of college students at liberal arts universities. I went to one, but it’s been over 20 years, and the world outside taught me plenty. If Sanders does well in the South, and on Super Tuesday I think it’s his nomination to lose. That is setting it on a tee for Trump, in my opinion. It would be almost easy. I’ve read Sanders would make the minimum wage $15 nationally, then tax everyone making over $32,000 annually at 52%. That would make that new $15 per hour worker’s wage $7.50. Think about it. Raise taxes on the middle Class, tax the 401K’s. That would decimate me personally. It’s like Anna Karenina (sp). Come home to someone else living in my house, and I get one room. No thank you. In the end, I do not think any of this passes congress, but just saying you think like this is dangerous to democracy. It’s maddening to me.

The young people don’t think, don’t care,  and don’t worry about how all of these “universal” programs would be funded.  They seem to think there’s an unlimited bucket money to provide everything promised. The millionaires and billionaires would pull their money out of the US so fast that your head would be spinning. You are correct that congress would never pass any of these bills if Sanders somehow won.

I could actually see a “Socialist Party” be formed because I don’t the the Democrats want to be identified as the “National Democratic Socialist Party”

Also, with Bernie’s admiration of Castro, that’s not going to play well in South Florida.  In fact, I would dare say he’s done in Florida unless something remarkable happens…which could

They’ve been sold on the evils of wealth and their right to that money with no consideration of the ramifications or what it actually takes to fund such programs.

It just dawned on me how the 2020 election huge in another way no one is talking about.  The 2020 Census and redistricting.  Both sides Gerrymander and regardless of it being right or wrong is irrelevant.  It’s going to occur to the winners.

A Sanders nomination could put the House in serious danger to flipping to the GOP and if that happens the GOP will have the upper hand on redistricting.

Interesting point. I know the Dems are concerned about the impact Sanders will have on some of the close districts. He’s not a centrist and could certainly tip some elections the other way. That would be a big deal.

There has been lawsuits regarding gerrymandering voting districts in N. Carolina. Add to that I fully expect N. Carolina to pick up a seat in the House of Representatives. That would require another district redraw. I literally had to google what voting district I live in now. It’s crazy. I haven’t gotten the new voter registration card, I guess the state board of elections is waiting on the Final outcome.

It’s going to be really interesting to see how Bernie handles the debates tonight.  In the last 48 hours a lot of information about he character and personal beliefs have come out to the nation in the form of scrutiny.  Since he’s the front runner, I expect the field to really go after him.  That would be a big help for Bloomberg.  I’m sure if he could sit in the corner and say as little as possible to get through the debate.

Bloomberg is now calling for Bernie to release his medical records. Normally I don’t really care about such things because it’s normally used more to find dirt than anything else.  In this case I think it’s a fair thing to ask for given Bernie’s age and recent heart attack on the campaign trail. Sanders has said he’s not going to release any more and if he’s in the lead I probably wouldn’t give my opponents any ammunition either.

There’s no reason for Sanders to do that. It doesn’t help him and can only give people something to use against him. There’s no evidence that his health has damaged him politically. If he wants to shut Bloomberg up, he could offer a trade - releasing his health records in exchange for Bloomberg releasing women from their non-disclosure agreements.

Agreed.  Trump won’t go there either because he won’t release his tax records.  Bernie’s heath will be an issue though.  You don’t need his records to make a political issue of it.

Yeah, people will still raise it as an issue. Trump certainly will. He’ll make some cracks or tweets about it, but he’s already working on him as crazy Bernie. I don’t have any idea, but I’m not sure how much that hurts him politically - maybe in the primary, but in the general election, I think most are just for one candidate or the other.

After a few days of the talking heads trying to figure out why Sanders slipped to Biden I believe comes down to a few things:

1.  I think Sanders Castro-sympathizing really scared a lot of people away

2.  Had Elizabeth Warren dropped out like the others most of those votes probably would have went to Sanders and made a difference.  They are now in negotiations.

3.  The young people didn’t get out the vote.  Typical inconsistency from the kids.
