Drake Maye, his dad was a qb for part of his time at UNC. His brother was a bball player for UNC. He committed to Alabama, but UNC’s coaches, namely Dre Bly, Phil Longo, and Mack Brown never stopped talking with him. UNC is doing very, very well with the 2021 Class, esp. in NC, but they have real chance with CB Tony Grimes out of Va.

Great pickup for Mack. He is a force on the recruiting trail.

Coastal is ripe for the picking if he can continue to upgrade the talent a bit.

UNC now ranked 4th for 2021 class on 247. There’s a good way to go, but MB and the staff are not joking. They want every player from NC, and good ones from surrounding states. New OLB and special teams coach recruited S. Florida at last job for Nebraska. John Lilly new TE coach recruited NC, Ga, and Fl for FSU then Georgia (followed Richt). They were both just hired. I see recruiting going up big time at UNC, and the product on the field will be that much better by great coaching. MB does not tolerate failure on a coach’s part on the field or recruiting. He wants to be better on the field and on the trail.  There’s a long way to the heights of Clemson, Bama, and OSU. I think UNC is throwing chips on the table and going for it. Chances are they will miss on Page(DL), and a RB this year, but every year I expect it to get better.

UNC’s recruiting has definitely ramped up in a hurry. When you start flipping guys from somewhere like Bama, that’s something you can point to with other guys. I think Brown will have UNC much stronger pretty quickly. They may well be the team to emerge from the Coastal.

Many, I HATE it when you’re right!

I’ve always felt like UNC Football has the potential to be a consistently high level program.  The location is great, plenty of money and in a conference in desperate need of a few stallions.

What do you mean? Aren’t I always right? grin
I thought Fuente would get things going faster than he has.

I agree. If they get it rolling, they should be able to get a lot of the NC talent and some from that southern Virginia area as well. At this point, they should be able to get some out of TN too.

I’m starting to wonder if Fuente’s window of opportunity is starting to run out. In a down ACC Coastal, I would have expected VT to get back to the top of that division and lock it down and it just hasn’t happened. With the way the transfer rule’s are changing and the NIL coming I’m wondering if this will help or hurt a place like VT.

UNC 2021 Class up to #4 on 247. Has 11 commits, 10 from NC. Mack Brown is getting it done on the recruiting trail. He knows how, and the results will come.

That’s a strong effort. There’s certainly reason for optimism in Chapel Hill.
