I agree with almost everything CU and Clem said. Everything went our way except 2 Bama fumble recoveries but there was NOTHING flukie about our win. This wasn’t the TA&M game where a QB played at twice his limit and WR’s caught 4 passes deflected by the defense. I was shocked by how good our OL played. That first punt was amazing but the second was a rugby and total garbage…. I don’t understand why they didn’t just try to boot it again. Fields deserves major props too because he had two amazing pass breakups over a much bigger WR/TE. One was close to PI but I swear he looked like he was just floating over the receivers shoulder on both plays.
I would actually say that Tua had a good game. His passing was similar to TL’s. However his coaches didn’t have him ready for Venables. Our players and coaches out played/coached Bama’s offense. Besides one bust by Muse those amazing WR’s disappeared on our backfield. Our DL stayed disruptive for most of the game. Their run game was better but when they were needed most they were stuffed 4 times straight. Also I doubt they run that much on us with big Dex in there….
After all that talk about the ACC not preparing Clemson and the SEC preparing Bama it turned out to be the complete opposite. Clemson looked better and more prepared than every Bama player on the field. Off the cuff I would guess that the ACC still passes more than the SEC so that matches Bama’s play style more. Most SEC teams were probably unprepared for a passing offense so they got rolled by Bama. Similarly Bama was not used to seeing much pass defense and we had big defensive plays because of it.
Some people have been spouting off that Trevor had the best game of the years. Well kinda but he really was about at his average for most stats. YPA up a bit (basically +1 big play) but completion % was down. He missed DK on the left sideline one a play that is a TD about 9/10 times. He missed a couple passes here and there that were easy completions. He didn’t have a KB ACCCG game with like 18 straight completions out of nowhere. Plus he’s a freshmen and he got like 20 extra practices where he was taking all the #1 snaps, something he didn’t get in the summer/fall, he should be getting better still.
Saban has made a career out of having teams that are too big and fast for almost everyone to compete with. This usually leads to turnovers and points for Bama. We reversed that severely is this game. Considering the margin by which Bama out recruits us and their higher turnover rate of players this is quite the feat.
Clemson is the first 15-0 team and beat an undefeated Bama and Notre Dame to win the title. Pretty hard to beat that!
