Clemson officially makes Dabo the 2nd highest paid coach in the country with a 10 year $93m contract.  $9.3 a year increasing to $10m a year the final 2 years.  It is the biggest deal overall in College Football spanning 10 years.  Can’t say he didn’t earn it.

ESPN reporting that buyout is $4m in the first 2 years, but jumps to $6m if he goes to Bama in the first 2.  When you are earning (or paying) over 9, 4-6 seems like chump change.  He released a statement today along with this that sounds like he’s in it for the long haul.  The test will be when broke hip old man saban finally calls it quits.

I believe Venables got a new contract as well but no details on that one.

Huge contract… That was interesting that the buyout is specifically increased if he leaves for Bama. I’ve never thought that was all that likely anyway, but I love that it’s specified that way in the contract. They’re renegotiating with Venables too which is a great step.

Pretty sure I heard Venables got 2.2/year for 5 years.

That’s big money.  Too much?  I really don’t care since it isn’t my money but it just seem like a lot for a guy who preaches being humble and describes his first job in football making like $35K as a TON of money.  Maybe it’s just me.

Spending that ACCN money before it hits the bank!

That’s a good point.  We’ll probably get a good bit more than that too.

Clemson takes in a little over 100m (about 112m) revenue, before ACCN and all that.  That means we spent almost an entire year of athletic department revenue on Dabo alone.  Just to give more perspective on it.  No complaints here.

Well worth it when you consider all the unprecedented success I’d say…maybe even a deal for Clemson.

I just don’t know how it all happened in the ACC with Swofford in charge and the refs and all the North Carolina bias. Imagine all the success you could have had under Swinney if you were in the Big 12? I mean you might have been world instead of national champs…

I would be interested to see the Universities financials over the last 15 years, athletic and academic.  Our success has brought a lot of applicants to Clemson.
