You don’t hear nearly as much chatter about him getting fired and Butch Davis heading to Tennessee as you do Davis going to Clemson.

I would think he’s gone…

Fullmer will probably step down, not get fired. I’m sure the Tenn people will offer him a job in the athletic dept. Butch Davis will be rumored to every open job. Collect the rumors and see how high they go. It’s not even the off season, and he’s already taking two jobs. My friend who loves Tenn says Davis is headed there. We’ll see.

3 mil buyout ... some schools would scoff at that but, not tenn.  if they only win 4-5 games ... he’s gonzo in my opinion.  he is already defending his record, not a good sign.

Your right, 3 million is nothing for them. Tennessee could become the next USC. They have big doe in the program, great tradition and play in the SEC and you can recruit there.

Like I said on the other site, Fulmer needs to have another coach/personality like David Cutcliffe to be successful. Look at the years DC was at Ole Miss, the Vols were not as successful as they were when DC was there before the Ole Miss job and after the Ole Miss job.

I also believe ultimately the Phat one will step down but it might not be until next year, unless he is pushed to make that decision at the end of this season and that might be the case.

I think David Cutcliffe is #1 candidate for the UT job whenever Fulmer take off. He has to be the guy if UT wants to sustain and not completely re-build.

Butch Davis is really working at getting the Tennessee job. Take that for what it’s worth. He’s represented by Jimmy Sexton. That’s all you need to know. Sexton is Tennessee football.

These are quotes from Davis’ weekly radio show that aired after Sexton’s comments:

I don’t think you can seriously tell, but from segments I’ve heard from Davis’ agent on a weekly segment on 560 Am WHBQ in Memphis, Tn. Davis is not going to leave UNC. If you go here:
http://www.sports56whbq.com/shows/sportstime.php
and click on Jimmy Sexton 10/07/08 interview. At the very end they ask Sexton if Davis would consider Tenn. He says no. Let’s just let it play out, but I just don’t think it’s a go. Esp. with a $200 million stadium expansion getting started after this season. If UNC is willing to go forward with this in this economic climate, they must know something we don’t.

Hmmm I think Davis goes to Clemson or stays at UNC. However if smash says it’s so, it’s so. he was voted the best insider on the wvu scout board and called the rich rod debacle two days before it happened. he’s in the know and I LOVE THE FACT HE HAS FOUND THIS BOARD.

SMASH HELP ME FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT WITH MY SOUTHERN FOOTBALL FRIENDS…...lol

you would think tenn is gonna throw 3.5 mil at their next coach ... or more.  hard to turn that down.

those new tv contracts make the sec’s spending ability crazy.  vandy is going to make more in tv contracts than Notre Dame ... think about that.

http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/ajc/cfb/entries/2008/08/26/cbs_espn_deals.html

espn deal 15 yr 2.25 billion
cbs deal 15 yr 800 million

cbs gets the first choice of games and espn the next choice or something like that.  either way, that’s 15 yrs, 3 billion dollars worth of tv contracts.

that is $16.7 billion a year in tv contracts.  the numbers might not be exact but you get the idea.  staggering blow to every other conference.

I was living in Nashville the year that Fulmer got the gig.  Using the word gig proves I used to live in Nashville.  Fulmer should be canned, not because of his recent performance, but because of the way he stabbed Johnny Majors in the back to get the job in the first place.  What goes around comes around.
