I just returned from a week of Boy Scout Summer Camp in the mountains of North Georgia and this was the first year of seeing the new Troops that well comprised of Girls since the BSA started allowing the ladies to join the program.

While I still would prefer an boy-only program, I will say that things really went smoothly from what I could tell and these girl-troops come in with a great attitude and appeared to have a great time.  One of the Troops actually won the majority of the awards given out for various things such as spirit, best troop, etc…

There were more girls there than I expected which tells me that there is more than a casual interests in the girls participating in the BSA program.  I spoke with a few of the adult leaders and the girls and they said the Girl Scouts are boring compared to what they are experiencing with the Boy Scouts.

It’s still too early to judge as everyone was on their best behavior, but I will say these girls are going to go back to their communities and will probably start recruiting their other girlfriends to join the BSA Program.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I’ve SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It’s a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing “I’m an Oscar Meyer Wiener”.

What was the deathtoll from the cooties?  Must have been hundreds or a liberal cover up!

There will be problems, likely with troop leader to girl interactions, but it will be ok for the large majority.  Did they do any training for troop leaders to help with the interface?  Like how to help appropriately with womens issues?  Are adults required to be in pairs at all times?

The BSA for a long time has a required policy of “Two-Deep” leadership which means that there must always be 2 adult leaders within eye contact when interacting with scouts at all times.  This protects both the Scout and the adult.  Leaders and any adult volunteer like a parent wishing to attend Scout event like camping must also go through the “Youth Protection” Training to leaning the Do’s and Don’t's of how to address the items you expressed.  No Hazing, No going into tents, no going near showers, etc….With Girl troops there has to be at least one female leader.

Everyone was pretty much on their best behavior from what I could see.
