Terrible loss…I got nothing…VCU coach is a Clemson alum. I hope you get him!

That was a horrible loss. The close losses overall are frustrating but this was awful. I think they lack discipline and poise and that has cost them in the close ones. Whenever it gets tight at the end of the game, they start launching bad shots and long 3s.

I can live with a better team beating you, but when you blow such a huge lead to a mid major in your house is a completely different issue.

If Brownell had taken this team deep into the NIT I think people could have tolerated another year.  With this loss it will be interesting to see if he survives.  The oly thing that saves him is his buyout…

I agree that he could’ve bought some time with a good run. People can accept that you’re getting close when you have a lot of close losses to good teams. This hurt that perspective a lot.

The decision on Brownell will tell us all we need to know about Clemson’s commitment to basketball.  If he isn’t let go we can expect a total waste of $65 million dollars and more years of not caring.  This decision on his future will tell us all we need to know.

Knowing Radakovich’s track record at GT is scary, he may give Brownell a raise and a 10 year contract.

It’s not that black and white Clem.  Though last night and the FSU blowout were completely embarrassing keeping Brad another year isn’t the end of all things basketball at Clemson.  He could still turn things around with some improved recruiting.  In 2014 3 deed Duke lost 71-78 to a Mercer team that got murdered in the next round.  Does that prove that Coach K and his players suck?  No, shit happens in sports (and life), don’t be so quick to judge because of 2 bad losses.

Brad should have kept his mouth shut about “feeling comfortable about his job” or however he phrased it.

Comparing Coach K to Brownell may not be the best way to make a case considering his list of conference and national titles….Just saying.

The Hot seat is on Brownell and negative recruiting will keep him from getting the caliber of talent he needs to raise the bar.

He has had several years to move the needle and it just isn’t happening.  I imagine his buyout with keeping him feeling comfortable for one more year and after that he better have made an impact or I don’t see him surviving beyond next year the product he put on the court this year is the same next year.

He finally got similar facilities to his peers this year and has his best recruiting class.

Clemson fans expecting improvement when Brad has every disadvantage possible besides a beautiful campus.

How much time do you think he needs?  Seriously?..College BB is about being able to recruit the best “one and dones”...It isn’t like College Football where you can red-shirt and develop a pipeline of top players and just rebuild.

College basketball is now more about immediate results and instant gratification more than any sport in college athletics.

If you think Brownell will continue to be an under 20 win coach for the next several years then I say move on..if you think he is able to make this team a consistent 20 win program then keep him.

I have my doubts

I’m just saying, we made a change in baseball and won the ACC plus put a very scrappy team on the field it’s clearly improving from Leggett, we made a change in football and we’re sitting on the moon.  I think basketball is stagnant, I think it will continue to be stagnant, and I think Brownell is the completely wrong person to lead us out.  New facility, new coach for a fresh start.

Brownell saying he is “comfortable” tells you all you need to know.  He is comfortable where the program is at right now?  Maybe that’s the issue.  We need to get someone with some fire to them like Dabo and Monte Lee.

You using facilities as an excuse for recruiting is off to me.  Sure they help, but if that is all he has to sell kids on at Clemson whats the use?  Kids go to Duke to play for Coach K, kids go to UNC to play where Jordan played and to play for Roy, kids go to Kansas, Kentucky, etc because they can get to the NBA and play for a storied program.  Kids aren’t going to come to Clemson just because we have a shiny new gym that is currently the epitome of wasteful.  Brownell has had what, 8 years to sell Clemson and you are saying he’s just now bringing in some recruits which to me, really aren’t all that impressive anyway.  Dude must be immortal because his process will take centuries.

Strip the roof off Littlejohn, throw some dirt in and make that the new Softball stadium.  Will fill more seats and probably be a better product.

I used Coach K’s epic fail in the first round as an example of a bad day by a clearly superior group of players and coaches, something Clemson can’t boast against many.

Anyway since ya’ll know everything about basketball please tell me what the top 5-10 recruiting tools are for a basketball coach and then rank Clemson/Brad 1-15 where they stand compared to the rest of ACC.  Also what level of success do you expect from CUBB?  ACC championship? Final four?  Be specific.

I find it hilarious that Clemson BBall fans compare Dabo and Monte’s situation to Brads.  They are nowhere close to the same.  Dabo runs a program that has already won a NC and has had many elite teams in the past.  Monte followed a good coach that also had very good teams.  Clemson basketball has only had a few teams that even qualify as “good” in 100 years.

Maybe this will make sense, the football equivalent of Clemson Basketball is Coot football.

I am sorry that not every Clemson fan sees the unicorns and rainbows in the Basketball Program that you see.  I don’t think I have invoked Dabo or Monte although I am sure people have. I don’t think it’s a fair comparison because as you have said, those programs have a history of high success.

I don’t need to be a basketball expert or a recruiting expert to see that what has been happening under Brownell have really not been very successful.

Recruiting is everything. If you don’t have the talent you can only go so far.  To a degree, that’s why OP probably had as much success as he did.  He ran a gimmick style with his full court press that allowed him to hang in with better talented teams and steal some big wins.  That style had it’s limits too.  OP got us to the ACCCG and a several appearances to the NCAA’s but eventually the lack of significant talent caught up.

My expectations are reasonable..become a consistent 20 Plus win Team…be in the top half of the ACC (hopefully top 1/3), consistently make it in the NCAA tourney and grow from from there….If Clemson BB cannot get to this level it has ZERO chance over ever being anything more than a mediocre program.

Hell, the law of averages should have afforded us more success than we have had….

Brownell is getting paid well recruit well and run a major Basketball program in the ACC…He is rated on this and paid for this.

Perhaps you are as “comfortable” as Brownell is…A lot of people are comfortable with Clemson BB because so many of our other sports di so well

Agreed, though I’d even settle around the 5 mark in the ACC.  I want to see tourney bids consistently.  Not asking to be in the final 4 every year.  And damnit beat UNC at UNC for once, jesus christ.

Football was stagnant and crippled under Bowden.  Bad attitudes, bad coach, subpar results even with good players and facilities.  Baseball was WAY to stagnant under Leggett at the end of his run especially given the history, one Omaha trip in the last 10 years of Leggett’s career, no supers since 2010 and losing first or second round of the regionals the last 3 years.  He had good players, sent multiple to MLB.  I don’t care how good you think Brownell recruits, the guy isn’t the right coach.  Just like Bowden, just like Leggett’s later years.  He is nothing but barely serviceable.  If we want to advance we have to make a change, again like we have done and are doing in other sports.

If I am not meeting expectations at my job I’m getting fired.  So are you, so is everyone else on this board.  Is a basketball coach not the same?  Did you want to give Kevin Steele or Billy Napier more time?  Come on man it’s not that hard!  Dabo was quick to pull the trigger on those not living up to expectations.  We need to hold our coach accountable.

A national championship 30 years ago does nothing for the program today, despite what the Danny Ford addicts tell you.  It really doesn’t.  Maybe one more recent.  Kids in the program aren’t connected to that, hell I read something the other day about kids wanting Jordan shoes then being asked if they knew who Jordan was and they had no idea.  Times are changing, you can’t cling onto the past that far away and expect it to be helpful.  You know you’d have to go back to around the year 2000 or just after to find a player on that year’s Clemson roster that was alive in 1981/1982?  And that is like just being born.  Past that no one was alive.  It’s fun for fans to count it on the overall tally, but it does nothing for the kids playing the game now.

Coots changed coaches, to a fiery proven guy…...look at them now.  It’s not every day I look up to the coots because they are currently looking up to us in everything, but their basketball program is improving.  Ours isn’t.  They have a bid this year, and quite honestly should of had one last year.  Frank Martin has the coots in the NCAA tourney (arguably for the second year) in 5 years.  Brownell sniffed it with OP’s players once his first year but has gone on to have 6 “comfortable” years only once exceeding 20 wins with his players.  He’s barely above .500 overall and at .459 in conference play.  Brownell is nothing but a hole full of muddy algae and mosquito filled pond muck.

Here’s a riddle, what does progression and stagnant look like to you?
Frank Martin - 14-18, 14-20, 17-16, 25-9 (should of gotten bid), 22-10 (NCAA Bid)
Brad Brownell - 22-12, 16-15, 13-18, 23-13, 16-15, 17-14, 17-16

If Radakovich does not fire him, there will be almost NO ONE in Littlejohn next season, guaranteed.  Ticket sales will be complete trash.  We need to act fast to find a replacement.

Again you are comparing apples to oranges.  Oh wow 22-10 in the SEC here’s your participation trophy.  USCjr played 9 top 50 teams while Clemson played 16, 8 being top 25.  I find it hilarious that you compare him to frank when BB is 3-2 against him, beating him this year.

Again basketball and football are not the same.  Billy and Kevin sucked hard.  They had the best stadium, close to the best history, and the best campus in the conference and usually the best players and barely got by.  Billy had zero creativity and Kevin couldn’t stop WVU from scoring and they only ran 3 plays all game.  Kevin had first round talent all over his defense too.

Again the Job comment is apples to oranges.  You expect Brad to out coach and out recruit some of the best basketball coaches and teams at a program that defines mediocrity.  I don’t know what yall do for work but I doubt you’re the best in the world at it.  Jeff Gordon couldn’t beat old Sem in a race if Jeff was driving a Moped and Sem had a Lamborghini.  It doesn’t mean Jeff is a bad driver.

I care about Clemson’s recruiting improving because it could be a sign that our improved facilities are paying off.  Brad has been playing with both hands tied behind his back until this year because he was at a basketball program that completely inferior top to bottom than almost every other team in the conference.  Now with only one hand tied he has managed a much better recruiting class.  BB had an OK season and was close to an NCAA bid and probably would have gotten it if not for some close losses and having to face a hot ACC champ Duke team in round 2 of the tourney.

Here’s my Tnet post if you are willing to accept some facts.

*the ACC has 5 of the top 11 ALL TIME winningest programs (remember this is a list of Division 1, not just power 5)
*the ACC has 5 of the top 12 ALL TIME winningest coaches. All of which are STILL COACHING.
*In over 100 years of basketball Clemson only has 201 more wins than Coach K

Let that soak in.

Coach K (#1 coach) from Duke (#4 school) only beat us by 7 today. In reality 7 points isn’t a bad loss. So who is Clemson going to hire that will allow the worst basketball team in the conference to beat the best coach of all time at the 4th best basketball school of all time? Seriously who?

Brad may have a worse overall record than OP but OOC scheduling is a crap shoot. IMO ACC production is a much better measuring stick because it is almost always the best of the best. Believe it or not Brad (.459) has out performed OP (.446) despite the conference being ever stronger than it was when OP was here. Remember historically Clemson is a miserable .373.

Basically what I’m saying is lets see how these new facilities pay off for Brad who just had his best recruiting class ever before we go spending $3M we could use to expand our football trophy case or gold plate that slide in a few years.
