I am a little surprised by this myself. But looking at the offers, FSU appears the best fit for him. He calls himself a pocket passer who can run and that is Jimbo’s IMO when it comes to developing quarterbacks.

Georgia, bama and Florida are places he will visit and Georgia and bama are loaded at quarterback. Fields could slide right in after Francois leaves for the NFL next year.

Who wants to go to Florida where quarterbacks go to die. He would end up starting for WVU.

If you want to play in the league, Fisher is your sure fire ticket.

Ruder is there also but they think he is going to UNC.

This guy we have on board James Blackman will be interesting to watch. He doesn’t look very good right now. At 6-5, 163 pounds he is one of the muck players from Bell Glade. Some of these guys have trouble getting 3 square meals a day but are tough.

Most of his passing has been rainbows to guys getting deep on the receivers. But he can scramble a bit. It will be interesting to see if Fisher can develop him. If he is to have any type future, he picked the right quarterback whisperer.

Bailey Hockman is more impressive, good numbers, quick feet, smart, lefty and his dad is a football coach. He was going to Georgia until Georgia picked up Eason. He is a four star and has pretty good potential.

If Francois went down this year, I would definitely like to see him go in over J J. Marino errrr Cosentino.

Oh yeah he is the top quarterback of the class. It is sounding pretty good but you never know. Clemson has the top two lately and Louisville has Jackson. FSU has to make a move or do something. There is a pic of him in the link.

““It was good, being able to throw in front of coach Fisher and getting to learn from him,” Fields told Noles247 after camp ended. “He talked about how he can develop me into becoming a great quarterback. He really knows what he’s talking about. Right when he told me to do something it made my throws better.”

““We worked on basic mechanics, keeping my front shoulder closed and downward. It wasn’t intense at all, I was just throwing the ball, doing what I do and trying to suck up all the info I could because I know how great he is working with quarterbacks,” he said.

Justin Fields wasn’t the only QB at camp as Jace Ruder also threw for Jimbo Fisher.

Actually the top QB is Lawrence, who is going to Clemson.  I think he’s #1 overall by all services.  He’ll beat Watson’s Georgia records this year if he stays healthy.

Fields it #1 dual threat.  Lawrence is called pro but he can run too.  Probably because he looks like a pro at 6’5” and 220lbs.

For some reason, Kirby is wanting a dual threat QB in the future. I am not sure why unless he is going to change our offense to a spread/read instead of the Pro style that has been there since Mark Richt took over.

Because you can’t out Alabama the tide.  Even Saban is starting to realize spread teams have a higher ceiling in cfb.  Until Saban retires the tide will have the best players in the country so you can’t win the SEC with the same scheme and lesser players.  The spread/hunh is riskier but has more potential.

Isn’t the spread concept less risky, but with less potential?

I understand the spread as a simpler system that games a defense by putting a wide variety of formations on the field that are not only difficult to account for but also create space for superior athletes to use to their advantage. A pro system on the other hand uses less exotic packages on the line but then incorporates a large amount of reads and hot routes that create mismatches after the snap.

The spread is less risky because the routes are straightforward, but also have less potential because they don’t utilize a player’s cognitive ability as much as their athletic ability. The pro system asks a player to beat his opponent both by identifying the correct read and beating him athletically. This is risky because players are more likely to screw up a complex read than a straightforward route.

I could be wrong, I’m no coaches son. This topic comes up frequently on FSU boards because one of the criticism fans have of Jimbo is that players take a while to see the field because even though they are athletically ready, they don’t understand the reads. Some feel that with FSU’s recruiting, we should cater towards our typically superior athleticism, rather than require all players (generally, this discussion is in regards to WRs) to master a complex set of reads and hot routes that many don’t even begin to understand until they are in the pros.

I’ve always associated the spread with HUNH, possibly incorrectly.  The reason it’s riskier is the snap quantity and pace of play.  More snaps is more turnover opportunities.  Also if you’re not being successful on offense your defense will be on the field far too long.  IMO it’s more volatile.  I think this is why the Boyd teams were so boom or bust.

I had a hunch on this one!

Florida State football recruiting news: Why No. 1 dual-threat QB recruit Justin Fields is trending toward FSU

https://www.tomahawknation.com/florida-state-football-recruiting-fsu-class-commit-visit-offer/2017/6/21/15844842/florida-state-football-recruiting-news-1-dual-threat-qb-recruit-justin-fields-trending-toward-fsu

Justin Fields made a visit to Tallahassee last week and the recruiting experts over at 247 explained why Florida State is trending heavily for the five-star QB prospect. Fields is ranked the No. 1 dual-threat in the 2018 recruiting class and No. 3 overall prospect according to 247 Composite Rankings.

Justin Fields is the most sought-after recruit on the market.

The nation’s No. 2 overall prospect according to 247Sports, Fields decommitted from Penn State a few weeks ago, setting off what will be one of the most hotly-contested recruitments of the 2018 cycle.

Fields, a Georgia native, is considering a number of schools but the consensus seems to be Florida, Georgia and Auburn each have a strong chance to sign him. But, after a weekend visit, a new contender has emerged as a serious option: Florida State.

The Seminoles and Jimbo Fisher develop quarterbacks better than any school in the country, and Fields threw on his weekend visit to Tallahassee – something many top quarterbacks don’t do at camps – to get coached up by Fisher.

Florida State already has a young established quarterback in redshirt sophomore Deandre Francois. But Francois could possibly leave following the 2017 season for the NFL Draft, which would potentially open the door for Fields to start immediately.
