No clear cut favorite this season. What are you looking at? How is your team doing? I can not complain much. Started season with a freshman PG. Doing better now.

Lost a few heart-breakers that may keep us out of the tournament.  I personally don’t care that much but a lot of Clemson fans didn’t like Brad then he made the sweet 16 and now they are all over him again.  I think he does well for what he’s up against.

Heels in Tournament form, and the vertigo thing hopefully won’t affect Roy too much as it is a common thing for him.

I think Clemson should be a tournament team with a game like that.

I watched the only Clemson BB game of the year and as usual, they can’t protect a lead against a quality team, rushed shots rather than slowing down to set up a better play and just got out-classed. It also helped that UNC shot poorly from the field.  You could tell Clemson was playing their “A-Game” and UNC was just going through the motions and stepping up to drain a big shot when they needed to.

It’s hard to root to make a tournament that you have zero chance of winning.  The field is too big. This is why I don’t want to see an expansion of the College football playoffs.  A tournament should be for the best of the best.

Clemson basketball is what the U of SC is to football: A marginal program that’s only hope is to occasionally make a tournament that you have no chance of winning.

Brad Brownell is probably about as good of a coach as Clemson’s going to get.  Clemson throws it’s resources at Football which is what the people want and Basketball is just not as important.  I dare say Clemson Baseball is probably a bigger sport than basketball.

While it would be nice to have a consistently good BB program, expectations are realistic.

I think that is defeatist of your own program and exposes that because you don’t like basketball, Clemson shouldn’t worry about it. That mentality is why folks like Rick Barnes left, and quite frankly why Mack Brown left Carolina the last time in football.

Any program can win with coaching and money even though some may have more advantages than other. Oliver Purnell obviously had some off court stuff that never got that much attention but he proved Clemson can be good at a high level.

I don’t give a crap about field hockey but I love the fact that Carolina has the best program in the country. It is a winning culture and benefits the whole department.

I like basketball fine.  I don’t follow it like I used to because the one and done rule has created a situation where you will never see a Worthy, Jordan, Perkins trio play in a final 4 because they will be playing in the pros.

Clemson is what it is.  Perhaps it’s defeatist, but I call it realistic.  In this day and age you need to be able to lock down a guy like Zion Williamson, who was in Clemson’s back yard and Brownell couldn’t close the deal either because he’s a bad recruiter or Zion didn’t see Clemson as the best place for a top player to spend his only year in College before going pro.

UNC is an elite Basketball school. A “down year” for them would be a good year for a school like Clemson.  Their coaches and players are the big men on campus.  That matters to recruits.  Clemson is a football school.  You can’t be great at everything.

I would love for Clemson to be a top ACC school in basketball.  I can’t think on many schools that are perennial powers in both of these sports.  I used to get upset because Clemson couldn’t break to the next level, but like you said, Clemson has to be willing to throw the resources and also a very aggressive recruiting campaign to be “That” school.  They’ve improved the Basketball facilities which is a start.  But it’s going to take a very dedicated commitment improve the program and I just don’t know if they can attract the kind of coach it would take to take on the ACC powerhouses.

Here’s a Stat I came across for Clemson BB:

In the past three years, Clemson is 1-13 in ACC games decided by 3 points or less. 2-17 in the past four years. No one else is even close to that. By comparison, VaTech is 8-1 in the past 3 years.

Coach? Talent?  Culture? Facilities?

I don’t know who I would pick to be the favorite this year. It should be fun to watch.

As for Clemson, we’re in our familiar spot of the bubble. I think Clemson can be a good team. We have had good years, we just haven’t been consistent. We just built a new facility and need to decide what we want. It’s certainly a very long road before we would ever be consistently on par with Duke and UNC. There’s a lot of room between where we are now and that point though. There is no reason we need to be on the bubble every year. We should be able get to where we’re a consistent tournament team and occasionally make a run. When you get to that point, your really good years look a lot different from where we are now.

I wasn’t planning on following Clemson BB but this board has me checking in and the Tigers play Notre Dame tonight.  It looks like they need to win out and may one or 2 in the ACC Tourney to have a shot and the dance

regarding Clemson. They are in the premier basketball conference. They should be able to out recruit Uof SC for players, UGa for plalyers, Tennessee for players, etc. The AD needs to decided if they are going to give BBall it’s due. Brownell seems like a very nice man. I do not think he has the edge to create in his players to dig deep at the end of close games. I’ll not pretend to know anything much about the program, but didn’t they get a new or remodeled arena? I guess it’s just up to the AD to decide if they want to be more competitive.
UNC stinks in football, but they built facilities, and tried to find coaches to make it better. They failed for the most part, but been good in spots. Duke stank at football, but made a commitment to facilities and a coach, and they are having fair success. It can be done, I guess.

Blowing an 18 point lead in a must win game.  The worst thing that happen is for Clemson to still receive a bid to the NCAA tourney.  They don’t deserve to go to the show playing like that.

Well, UNC vs. Duke part 3 was an ok game. UNC lost, but both teams played pretty equal. The game wan’t played very well by either, especially the 2nd half. It’s on to the big one, now. I don’t know if UNC will get to the Final Four, it depends of the draw. I know this board as a lot of Clemson and FSU fans. That said, basketball season’s real season is here, and I’m sure there will be some exciting games.

Not sure what game you were watching but I thought that was a riveting game with potentially one of the great players ever to play basketball facing off against a team that shut the rest of his teammates down. Carolina messed up that last possession and did not shoot well but that game was super exciting and I hope there is a round 4. Carolina, Duke and UVa all deserve 1 seeds especially based on the limited bit I saw from Tennessee and Kentucky. Neither of those teams are playing the type of basketball the ACC teams are playing right now.

All the other conference will be so salty with the ACC getting 3 x 1seeds but I’m guessing UK losing basically sealed that up.

The ACC paid it back by losing out on NCSU. They deserved to be in IMO.
