The part of the company I worked in manufacured integrated electrical equipment. When I got out of high school I went to work in the manufacturing plant building what can only be compared to an 18 wheeler’s trailer and bigger. Just big huge pre fabricated rooms full of electrical equipment and anything associated with electrical power, lighting control, communication, security…just about anything associated with large building construction….at the time our main customer was Wally world. When I left to go to college we built anything from small computer rooms to two story “houses” full of just about anything pretaining to electrical power. We built everything from the ground up. Frame to roof skins.
When I graduated I bounced around a bit and then came back. I took an inside sales engineer job. Which means I would take a set of plans for say a small restaurant and come up with a cost effective solution for all of the customers incoming power supply, energy management, lighting control, security, telephone….you get the point. I did that for a year and a half and was then moved into the account management position except I still had to do the other stuff too. The lead salesman was a giblet head. He did nothing to help keep the customer happy after he would get the account and I was stuck cleaning up mess after mess, delivery issues, payment issues, pricing issues, service…again you get the point. Dude couldn’t even take me out to play golf. I handled some large fish too and was never rewarded on the wallet that’s why I left.
