Academic integrity does not mean a thing. Nobody outside the South recognizes SEC degrees (save Florida and Vandy in AAU). When people keep seeing articles about this kind of subject. For this culture to happen in the South is flat out disgusting.

“The conduct of Cam Newton’s father and the involved individual is unacceptable and has no place in the SEC or in intercollegiate athletics,” said Mike Slive, Southeastern Conference commissioner. “The actions taken by Auburn University and Mississippi State University make it clear this behavior will not be tolerated.”

Hmmm. I have two degrees from UGA and I have worked for some large northern and western based companys. They didn’t seem to care that I wasn’t AAU certified.

MW, I agree with you that the SEC doesn’t seem to give a crap about academics. But IMO that’s more of a cultural culpa of the southeastern US in general.

But Doyel’s column doesn’t seem to be about that. It’s about something much more heinous - the utter lack of honesty and integrity among the ones kids look up to for leadership (head coaches) when it comes to honoring a commitment to a player who made a commitment to you in the first place, many times spurning other schools’ advances in the process.

I do find it ironic, or perhaps hypocritical, that high school students are blasted by fans for waffling on verbal commitments to schools, or de-committing and recommitting elsewhere, yet when coaches pull rank after NSD and enrollment there’s no huge outcry. I say if it becomes commonplace that coaches don’t honor their commitments, then there’s no reason for high school kids to honor theirs. Can’t blame the kids if this is the landscape coaches are creating.

That’s a weird picture of Les Miles in that article.  Looks like his head is floating.
