AJC article:

http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2012/01/25/mark-richt-is-going-to-church-with-states-no-1-uncommitted-football-recruit/

I’m not an expert on the NCAA rulebook… but is a coach allowed to give large donations to a recruit’s church while visiting that recruit??

Only if you coach in the “SEC, SEC, SEC, ...”.

This is a very grey area in the recruiting process. The funny thing is that we railroaded Auburn for paying Cam Newton’s father $180k to fix up his church, basically paying for Cam’s services. This seems similar except it went straight to the collection plate.

Unless FSU does a better job of hiding some of the grey area recruiting practices, I’ve never heard of any coach representing FSU deploying these tactics.

We should pray about it….

On a serious note, why would Mark Richt do this other than to get the kids church people to pressure the kid. Forget the money, it’s not about that. It’s about pressuring the kids decision.

The facial expression that guy is making is very similar to Gene Chizik when he hoisted the crystal asterisk.

Coach Richt wasn’t the first coach to visit the recruit and go to church and he won’t be the last.

It is my understanding this can only be done in the SEC. I think Auburn built a new church for Cecil Newton.

New record crowd at Benny Hill stadium this year .... to watch FSU! Unfortunately most of them were Seminole fans!

2007 FSU 21 Alabama 7
2008 FSU 42 Wisconsin 13
2009 FSU 33 WVU 21
2010 FSU 31 Florida 7
2010 FSU 45 Miami 17
2010 FSU 26 South Carolina 17
2011 FSU 23 Miami 19
2011 FSU 21 Florida 7
2011 FSU 18 Notre Dame 14
Why can’t they just win the game?

Mark Richt is a Christian man and probably needed a tax write off (sarcasm).  My guess since they went to church on Wednesday they are not Catholic.  What is a large donation?  That collection basket never saw a Benjamin before, maybe a few rolled up singles that came out of a bra.

Richt is just trying to keep up with Champ, the master recruiter.

Maybe Spurrier should start going to recruit’s churches. He didn’t have to for Clowney but he did dance with Lattimore’s mom.

Once he adds some weight, JHC is going to be a beast getting to the QB.

He reminds be of Telvin Smith… Just a different breed of athlete at the LB position with a butt load of speed… Not only going to be a great pass rusher, but great in coverage as well.

Josh owns a bail bonding company in Valdosta. There was no way he was leaving Georgia and his business and salary. This is where Grandpa comes in. He wanted him at FSU because it was closer to the business.

Josh won out. Bailbonding company is in Grandpa’s name and off to Athens goes Josh.
