A bit stunning to me but I will say this. Steele is normally good about picking things sort of out of the blue like this. Probably that’s because he uses data and does not get caught in the hoopla. I don’t think we will be that good but man I will take it!
Not impossible, but very unlikely given your schedule this year (and conference schedule). An ACC team, specifically an undefeated FSU, would get passed up by a 1 loss SEC team for the national championship…..and I’d be willing to bet on that, simply based on the schedule.
I disagree that FSU would get jumped.FSU wins out they will play. FSU has lost and played for it before too…
An undefeated FSU goes ONLY if they are the only undefeated team in the country, and there are no 1 loss top flight SEC/Pac 10 teams. Im not suggesting a 1 loss vandi goes over an undefeated FSU, but 1 loss LSU/SoCal would
I have to agree with Pines here. I don’t think an undefeated ACC team gets passed up for a 1 loss $EC team here, expecially if it’s one of the premier programs of the league. If it was WF or BC, maybe, but not FSU.
Strength of schedule means a lot. Auburn got left out some years back even though they were undefeated because they replaced somebody with the citadel. USC and oklahoma played for the title.
FSU like some other “Big Name” schools would get in on reputation. The Media likes FSU and that are a national brand…
I also think Clemson would get in if they ran the table because to do that they will have had to beat FSU and VT (Probably Twice again) plus 2 SEC teams…Nothing to sneeze at.
Heres my list of schools the media has a hard-on for that would get in with 1 loss over an undefeated FSU/Clemson…any non sec/pac10 really
LSU
Bama
Florida(maybe)
Ohio State (ineligible but for sake of argument)
Oregon
SoCal
Cal
UCLA
SCAR (love spuriers dick, must win SEC, 1 loss must be ranked)
Oklahoma
OSU (make up for last year)
Texas

I disagree on California, UCLA and Maybe Oregon…As for SCAR, If we ran the table and SCAR had one loss, that loss would be to us as the last game and there is no way they get a second shot at us with a head to head…this isn’t a Alabama/LSU thing

If their 1 loss was to us, they would still be SEC Champions, and their opponent in the SECCG would be a top 5 opponent, while our in the ACCCG might be top 15. If we were undefeated we would also be top 5, so their 1 loss would be to a top 5 team. Im not saying its a great possibility, but it could happen, depending on who the Pac10/B12 champ is.
If FSU is undefeated (and clemson is therefore not)then SCAR’s 1 loss could have come anywhere during the season, including an SECCG (now the only way i see them loosing the seccg and still going is if ARK/AU somehow go with 2 losses already and one of those losses comes during the regular season to SCAR, a 1 or 2 loss Bama LSU would jump SCAR if they beat them in the SECCG and SCAR beat them in the regular season)
its all very complicated, i kinda wish i could draw a node chart to explain
As much as i want to believe that, i still think a 1 loss socal or lsu would go over clemson, esp socal, ESPN has been waiting for USC to come back into the national picture like a baptist on his wedding night.
undefeated LSU vs 1 loss pac 10champ socal is way more likely than undefeated LSU vs undefeated clemson.
Not to mention i doubt the bcs will allow 2 regional teams to play again after the rating for the NCG last year
There is also one thing that would not only work in FSU and Clemson’s favor, but any NON-SEC school….and that is the belief that many of the pollsters that are not particular fond of the SEC with throw their votes another way if the opportunity arises.
Many out of envy or the belief that they have won enough in a row would want to see some other schools from different conferences compete. The Alabama/LSU game IMO was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Over course, with a playoff on the horizon, all thinks are about to change
