Clemson and/or FSU may be shopping or playing to leave the ACC, but I am starting to get the feeling that this is a big bunch of nothing….
What is the one thing that has occurred during these rumors?.......It has taken the typical college football fan from around the nation during an extremely light period and have had these same fans glued to TV, radios shows, college fan websites and the purchasing of sports magazines to be part of the process!...And that is how we are being played! The Expansion talk is great media and to a degree I think we are being played. Look how much time we have spent here just on this subject! Southern Pigskin alone has greatly benefited from this with the spike in new members and increase of activity on their site…...Now SPS deserves the increase in people because they run a great website and take outstanding care of their members when issues come up so in the case of this one website, it is a win-win for both the fans and the SPS team…..but jackals like ESPN also profit from this and that is the last thing they need.
I just don’t see how Clemson and FSU can both get enough help from the Big 12 Members to assist with 40 million dollars of buyout money to the ACC…FSU is flat broke and I don’t think Clemson is in a hurry to come up with that kinda of loot with the money that they are throwing to coaches and facility…Also, the more I keep reading all this TV money stuff, I am just not as convinced the net financial gain is there.
The Big 12 would be great to have Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and WVU on the schedule, but I am having an increasingly hard time seeing that occur….
I think the most like think will be for the ACC to try to win the Notre Dame Sweepstakes and try to reel in one more school like a Louisville and have a 16 team “mega conference”...This makes the most sense even if it is not what the fan bases from both schools want to see happen.
I’m unsure if it’s all just a ploy, but I’ve been thinking about that for weeks that this expansion talk sure is great in a slow off season.
The official “Talk” of expansion is relatively minor compared to the Media drive hype that is getting the fan bases lathered up…that is sort of where I am going with it.
The talk is coming from fans and media outlets and there is a lot of passion and buzz around it… But the fact of the matter is that it’s a slow a process and everybody wants to know what’s going to happen yesterday.
The thing that is really going be the fuel to conference expansion will be the 4 team playoff that the conferences are deciding on right now… Which conference will benefit from adding teams??... Which teams will benefit from moving conferences??... I guarantee if they come up with a system where certain teams have little to no chance to compete for a national championship there will be some serious jockeying for a “power conference”.
We won’t see anybody move conferences until we find out what all the details will be.
The Notre Dame “sweepstakes” is just crazy talk for ANY conference at this point… Personally, I think the only conference that would make sense for them would be the Big 10… and they would begrudgingly make that move only if they were forced to do so.
For my school… When I consider academics, athletics, facilities, fan base, culture, etc… I don’t think we fit in well with the ACC… I’m not saying I want to change conferences (SoPines)... but it doesn’t fit in with the other ACC schools.
Be patient, the new Big 12 commissioner hasn’t even taken office yet. This was just the interim commissioner driving the bus, and he can’t make anything official so we wait until it can be official from the real boss. June 15th is when he takes office.
Buyout money? The Big 12 has close to $25mil from Texas A&M and Missouri’s exit fees to use, and so far the only thing I’ve seen is for them to help FSU with the majority of theirs. I feel like Clemson could come up with theirs, and if not I’m sure the Big 12 is not hurting for cash for these occasions.
And I agree, waiting on that playoff decision. You are looking at a date between June 15 and August 15th. Be patient, everything is still on track. Don’t listen to that “coach speak” when the Big 12 says its fine at 10. The SEC was fine too….and we all know what happened there. Its still coming, just won’t get instant gratification out of it or any big blowups like FSU’s BOT had. Little leaks here and there.
Listen to Clem he knows what he is talking about. I have seen speculation they might pay all of the FSU money.
Be rational, they are not going to leave WVU out on an island and they won’t miss a shot at bringing the Big 12 to a level that would rival the SEC in talent.
Greg Swaim’s press credentials for the Big 12 were pulled today…....HMMMM wonder why. Same thing happened last year when he reported A&M and Missouri leaving. Coincidence?
Its not a done deal in terms of pen to paper, but might as well be. Its like a common law marriage. Just gotta wait for the dates to come up then you will see. June 15th at least.
So Clemtgrs, if nothing has happened by August 15th, is this still a “done deal?” I am going to follow this just for the sake of the entertainment of it all. I mean guys, if it happens, it happens and chips will fall where they may. One other thing…what’s with all of these pics that you guys are posting? I mean, if you (FSU and Clemson) do not end up leaving, don’t you think this is going to look a little ridiculous in the future?
I understand your excitement about possibly joining another conference but I wouldn’t hang another “school’s” banner on my wall until you were actually a part of that school (school being conference).
