BJ hosted the first ever Cpl. John R. Stalvey Celebrity Basketball Game at the College of Coastal Georgia Saturday night. In the front in the brown Southern Tide is Matt Stalvey, John’s brother. The game was a big success as it generated over $3,000 for the Wounded Warrior Weekend on Jekyll Island later this summer. Here is the all-star team picture including:
Tre Hill: Played college basketball collegiately at Brewton-Parker. Is now the head men’s basketball coach for the Ware County Gators in Waycross, Georgia.
B.J. Jenkins: Former defensive end for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, starting as a senior. Played on a CCU team that, in 2010, made the school’s second-ever appearance in the FCS playoffs.
Tim Johnson: Owner of Johnson’s Outdoors and co-host of “The Johnson’s Outdoors Show” on The Fan Sports Radio 103.7, ESPN Radio Southeast Georgia. To be featured on “Hunting is Good” television this fall on the Pursuit Network.
Greg Jones: After rushing for over 2,500 yards and winning two ACC championships as a star at Florida State, Jones was selected in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He is the starting fullback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, the lead-blocker for the league’s leading rusher last season Maurice Jones-Drew. Jones was a Pro Bowl alternate in 2007 and won the Ed Block Courage Award that same season. Has scored 13 career touchdowns in the NFL.
Brian Hoff: Former Florida State basketball player. Was team captain on the Seminoles’ 2009 team that made the ACC Tournament finals and participated in the NCAA tournament. Was named the team’s Most Outstanding Student-Athlete in 2008 and 2009.
Roddy Jones: A four-year starter at a-back for Georgia Tech, helping the Yellow Jackets win the ACC Championship in 2009. Ranked second in the nation in yards per carry in 2008 with 8.52 yards per attempt. Was a three-time Academic All-ACC team member during his time in Atlanta. Was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the MLB out of high school.
Frankie King: Before twice being named the Southern Conference Player of the Year at Western Carolina, King earned All-American honors at Brunswick College in the early 1990s. Is the only former Mariner to be selected in the NBA Draft, as he was taken 37th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1995. King played for the Lakers and 76ers, in addition to many teams overseas.
Jeremy Mincey: An All-SEC defensive end for the Florida Gators, Mincey was on UF’s BCS National Championship team in 2006. He was chosen in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL Draft and has played with the San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots and now the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mincey has 103 career tackles and 15 career quarterback sacks.
Joe Mincey: Former Coastal Georgia Community College standout, Joe Mincey went on to play college basketball at West Texas A&M. Earned honorable mention all-conference honors during his time with the Buffs.
John Scott: An assistant football coach for the Georgia Southern Eagles, Scott has been on the staff in Statesboro for two years. He previously was a collegiate assistant at Louisiana-Lafayette and Norfolk State. During his playing days Scott was an All-Southern Conference defensive end for the Western Carolina Catamounts.
Lamont Seward: Running backs coach for the Georgia Southern Eagles. Shined as an all-conference wide receiver for Western Carolina as a player. Finished his career fifth in Southern Conference history in receiving yards. Named to the Southern Conference football all-decade team.
Ben Troupe: Earned first-team All-American honors as a tight end for the Florida Gators in 2003. He won an SEC Championship in 2000. As a senior he was a finalist for the John Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top tight end. Was the 2nd round pick of the Tennessee Titans in the 2004 NFL Draft. Played professionally for the Titans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders. Caught 106 passes for 1,056 yards in his pro career.
