I have thought about this for a long time. No recruiting base. They have lost the national spot light. No big time head coach wants the job. Now S. Carolina is pulling recruits against them. They may have a good year here and there but they dont have the base to compete with the big boys and you know have to say S. Carolina is that. I think Tenn is going to be average for a while.

They have money…..

I have said that Bobby Petrino will be the next HC at Tennessee.  He may be a cad, he may be a little radioactive for hiring, but the dude can build a program.  He is a really good coach that would take a gig like Tennessee in a heartbeat

It’s all coaching. Tennessee hasn’t had it in the better part of a decade. Tennessee is comparable to Arkansas in terms of resources. When Arkansas had the right coach, they went 21-5. If and when Tennessee gets the right coach, they’ll be back.

I am currently working on contacting a few former UT players in order to get their takes on what Tennessee has to do to become a power once again. There is no doubt that significant changes are in order.

They should have went after Mike Leach when he was available…...

Tennessee isn’t going anywhere… They might be average or below average for a little while… but everybody goes through that… its just a blip… They’ll be fine.

Save a neck injury to Chris Weinke late in the 98 season and they wouldn’t have gotten their title then. I like seeing them beat Florida every now and then though.

Weinke doesnt get hurt, Peyton doesnt win the NCG…does he get drafted by the colts? does peyton become peyton?

Peyton was gone by then. Tee Martin was UT’s quarterback in ‘98. Now perhaps if Weinke doesn’t get hurt, Martin isn’t drafted in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft, ahead of Tom Brady.

I don’t think they are done, but I’ve always heard that the state of Tennessee does not have a whole lot of football talent for whatever reason. Tennessee get’s alot of kids out of North Carolina and I’ve heard the western part of NC has a Tennessee lean.

If NCSU and UNC can sew up their borders a little better, then maybe they can strangle UTenn’s football program.

Vols have always done well in Georgia, even going back to their glory days in the late ‘90s. They must continue to do so with the increasing talent there. Only a good 3 hours from Knoxville to Atlanta.

The addition of Sam Pittman from UNC as O-line coach should help a lot in the Carolinas. He’s a rockstar recruiter and he left UNC an outstanding O-line for this season. I think he could even be retained on a new staff if Dooley is fired after the season.

If I was a big time recruit I think I would have to give Tennessee a look.

I grew up 20 minutes from the state line.  I hated Tennessee because they stole so much talent from NC that could have gone to State instead.  Now that talent goes to other schools in the SEC a lot of the time.  Really looking forward to playing the Vols in the Georgia Dome and hoping we put a serious beatdown on ‘em.

so whats your saying is UNC or NCSU to the SEC might mean an end to Volunteer football all together, interesting
