anyone have any thoughts on this?

I read about it on Tnet….he Committed to Clemson and then decided he wanted to keep looking.  The Assistant coach at the HS got on social networking talking about how nice USC was and Clemson shut it down.  Dabo feels once you commit you are a Tiger and doesn’t play with two-faced people.

Also, the HC of the HS appears to not be happy with the Assistant Coach.  The coach doesn’t want to see a relationship with Clemson get soured and appears to be ahead of this.

Sounds like this kid shouldn’t have committed to Clemson if he is still shopping.

Even though I think that once you give your verbal commitment you should stop looking around, I realize that is not how recruiting works these days. In this situation, if the Clemson coaches made it known to this player that this is how they deal with players taking other visits after verbally committing, then I have no problem with it at all.

Have you read some of the tweets that assistant coach put out there?  Wow!  Not only can the guy speak english but he is just Sounds like a Mike Bellamy minus 2 stars drama queen to me though, meh.

At least we don’t recruit dirty like USCjr and the SEC, the kid will probably commit to them and find out on signing day that there’s no scholarship or space for him.  Shame.  No Clemson recruits have ever been replaced or given the cold shoulder on signing day.  If you commit to Clemson you are all in.

I almost feel bad for the kid, his coach has kinda screwed him. im sure he will land on his feet, but im sure hes the star on his HS team, and i hope this teaches him a lesson about how hes as disposable as the next guy in line

Also you’re telling me if swinney has a top ten verbal committ he’s going to dump him he he visits other schools? Right. I don’t think so. He is a clown and making enemies. Believe it or not I actually agree with you.  I haven’t been too thrilled with this story and I have to think there is more to it.  If this kids has been a smart-ass or a potential problem child like Mike Bellamy that is one thing, but recruiting is tough stuff and you need to stay with them until the LOI is signed and the fax has come through.

I disagree. His stance is that if you keep looking, he doesn’t see you as committed. If you commit to Clemson and keep looking, he doesn’t see you as committed. If you commit to someone else and keep looking at Clemson, he doesn’t see you as committed.

If Dabo is not upfront in telling his verbal commits that this is how he handles this situation, then that is really poor taste on his part. However, if he is letting them know that this could/will happen if they visit other schools, then the onus is on the player.

Ill agree with that, but we wont be able to know, because to my understanding colleges are not permitted to publically discuss recruiting issues, and that makes every one of these tweets the coach makes not only classless, but cheap shots, beacuse he knows that Clemson is not permitted to defend themselves. Hopefully the HS HC has enough sense to step up and say this is what happened, and either yes he was told not to look elsewhere, or no he wasnt. Because if he has a lick of sense he will know that other schools will see the way this assistant is attacking a school when it cant issue its own statement of causation, and realize it could happen to any of them too, and stop recruiting at his school.

Recruitment is cut throat, but when a school that has a reputation for honoring their commitments starts getting attacked in such a public manner where they are not allowed to defend themselves, other recruiters are going to take note and look for greener pastures

I like the way Fisher handles it, he tells them to visit every school you like and if you find somewhere you think is better for you than FSU then go there. He doesn’t want anyone at FSU who doesn’t want to be there.

Recruiting is out of control. It’s cut throat, ruthless and that’s the good part of it. The underbelly of it now with 15 minute news cycles and Joe Blow websites with their made up sources feeding young 16-18 year old kids vison of stardom has made it basically unbearable to even follow anymore. And the scary thing is the NCAA can’t regulate it because it’s big business now.

If you’re a young prospect, and get an offer, you need to accept it and quit following the dragon of stardom. Some never catch it, at least most of the highly rated kids. But dang if those that do catch it are everywhere online feeding the beast.

Sad…....

All I have to say is deuces to him.  I’m not worried about losing a 6’6 200 lb olb/safety. I don’t know of any players with that build to play anything but WR/TE. Our class this year will be small so I’m ok with giving up this 3* if it means we can go after someone else. We have a couple of 5* cb’s that are showing interest plus another RB slot just opened up. I was more excited about the other 3 LB’s we have on the commit list. I like that Boulware kid. Also the kid from Daniel has promise, a lot of good recruits have come out of there lately.
