I am hoping this will spark a nice conversation. I just posted an article saying that NCAA should keep the BCS in place in order to determine the four participants in a college football playoff.

http://www.southernpigskin.com/SEC/view/four-team-playoff-should-uitilize-the-bcs

I encourage all of you to read it and then leave your thoughts here. If you disagree with my stance, please offer up your suggestions.

I would do a 5 team playoff.  The forth seeded team would play a play in game with the 5th seed…

Why?...To accommodate the ACC, Notre Dame…plain and simple.

This gives the 5 Top BCS Conferences (I am kicking the Big East Out) a chance to be in the tournament.  This is based on Conference Champs first.  The 5th seed can be for the lowest ranked of the 5 conferences or Notre Dame.

Notre Dame will essentially be treated like a “conference” of there own with a much higher emphasis on RPI.  In fact all Non-BCS schools or Independents would have a higher RPI standard….With that said, the seeds will be based on how they are ranked in the BCS.

The “play-in” game would be played one week after the Conference Champion ship games are played at the Home Field of the 4th seed.  After that the 4 teams play it out in the bowls…

I say take the winners from the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, and PAC 10. If Notre Dame wants in they can join the Big 10. When was the last time someone from other than those four conferences won the MNC?

^ Miami won it in 2001. FSU won it in 1999.

I’m a Clemson fan, and I agree with this.  This is how I would do it.

I still vote for a compromise between national rankings and conference champions.

4 team playoff, 2 highest rated conference champions (has nothign to do with conference ranking) and the 2 “wildcards” would go to the 2 highest ranked teams left.

Id prefer to see an 8 team playoff (4 highest ranked conference champions and 4 highest ranked others)where the first 2 rounds take place over 1 week and the final is a week from the closet saturday to the end of round 2

I’m ok with the top 4 seeded teams getting into the playoff regardless of conference affiliation with a selection committee doing the seeding, but the criteria should be known ahead of time by everybody.

Strength of schedule, wins and losses should be heavily factored into it. Then there are other things that only a human can determine like hot streaks, injuries, luck, etc.
