Here is a big article via Tigernet:

http://www.tigernet.com/view/story.do?id=10660

Dabo is pretty firm in his comments.  Not the typical political double-speak we are used to hearing.  He doesn’t think Clemson should move to the Big 12, it has hurt recruiting and will totally change our recruiting if we moved.

At the bottom of the article are the actually video’s of the interview and one of them talks a little about Sammy Watkins and Mike Bellamy.  He does say that Bellamy has the opportunity to return next year if he has hi head in the right place.

I actually have the same frustration about these rumors and totally dig where Dabo is coming from.

The cool thing is the never ruled out or even mentioned moving to the SEC!

YOU HAVE 2 COORDINATORS FROM BIG 12 STATES…....HOW IS THIS GOING TO CHANGE YOUR RECRUITING?!!?  This is STUPID.  The only change it will have is make it STRONGER.  You have a Defensive coordinator that played AND coached in the Big 12 for 20 freakin years combined.  Your offensive coordinator coached HS football in the state of Texas for 12 years and then spent another couple of years in the state of Oklahoma.  I bet they are chomping at the bit to get back out there where they KNOW the lay of the land.

EXCUSES, that’s all this is.

Thank god Dabo doesn’t sign the checks he collects one.  And while he is a true hearted, honest coach who Clemson, and myself, tend to love (he really is a good guy, and I feel that we got a steal of a hire with him), he doesn’t make the decisions and won’t make the decisions. Sure, we are committed to the ACC…...until we tell them we are leaving. Clemson is no FSU, we aren’t burning the bridges just yet theres no point in that.

I think we will be very competitive in the Big 12, its going to be harder sure….a lot of good teams in the Big 12, but with the talent we have and the recent coordinator hires I think we can easily be competitive. You have to beat the best to be the best, and I for one WELCOME with open arms a real schedule where we play real teams. Might get knocked around some, but that’s how you learn what not to do, that’s how you advance as a football program. I’m tired of the status quo. These ACC homers are nuts.

The ONLY argument people are using with recruiting is the parents won’t be able to go up to Wallace Wade Stadium, buy tickets at the gate to watch Clemson/their son play a riveting game against Duke infront of MAYBE 20,000 fans. I don’t buy that garbage about recruiting. We’ve been recruiting south Florida harder then anything else the past few years. Its 12hrs from Clemson to Miami, 9-10hrs to Pitt, 14hrs to Syracuse, 17hrs to Boston….....how is that any different then going out west a ways? Hmmmmmmmmm. These kids all want to be big time, they want the fame and the camera time THAT’S what you sell them, not their parents being able to visit every weekend. Sell them Clemson vs Texas under the lights primetime ESPN, not Clemson vs Duke or BC at 12 noon on regional channels. Its really not that hard, and all this recruiting stuff is BS. You know whats really hurting us? Not keeping up with Univ of South Carolina who competes for the same recruits. Why? Money and a power conference. I like Dabo, but those are just stupid comments…....excuses really.

I’d like to amend my statement a little, Kansas state was not in the Big 12 when Brent played there.  STILL, Kasnas….another Big 12 state.

The recruiting excuse is short-sighted nonsense.  Something is ALWAYS hurting recruiting (bad seasons, departing coaches, etc, etc, etc)...this is nothing new.  Anytime there’s upheaval it hurts recruiting, but staying in the ACC will hurt Clemson much, much more than moving to the Big 12.  & whatever negative effect it’s having will be short-term.  Being hamstrung by the ACC’s weak revenue position will put us at a competitive disadvantage that will do enormous long-term damage. If there is a plan to get us into the SEC, great, but as Tickle says, the chance of that is slim to none.  The Big 12 is our best, & most likely shot at this point in time, & if we have the opportunity, we should take it.

Rarely do I agree with you, but this post is very, very true. Clemson would be able draw whatever talent is necessary for whatever conference they are in. You are right, HS kids mostly want to play for teams that get the TV time, and exposure. If Clemson were in the Big 12 or the SEC, they would pull in the kids that would otherwise go to another Big 12 or SEC school. I really don’t think recruiting would drop off at all, and in fact it could even improve.

Another point is Clemson ISN’T moving to Texas or Oklahoma, whats wrong with home games for parents??

If the BOT/President/AD….whoever wanted to really end all of this speculation, they could…but have they?

Lord I miss your posts…this one is tame…

I am holding to a belief that we are not going to quickly jump to the Big 12 if there is a chance of the SEC.  I think that is the endgame.

Dabo may have adopted the Bobby Bowden strategy, the easier the games are the more wins I get.

Going to the Big 12 can’t hurt recruiting it can only help it. That piece makes it sound like they have to pick up the university and move it out of state. Pretty lame, Clemson and FSU are always playing out of state games. Is the University of Florida going to move their stuff to St. Louis or College Station Texas. Good lord we are talking about the same thing here.

It is just a guess but I think Dabo is afraid if he doesn’t win enough, there is a big shadow behind him and it is Chad Morris, a coach who knows the Big 12 very well. That is just a guess though. If I was Dabo I would be very aware of his presence. There will be plenty of big 12 money around for a coaching upgrade if needed also. Just a thought.

That whole interview did not exude confidence. It comes across like he is more worried about Dabo and his recruiting than about Clemson as a whole. I will give you an example. Fisher is just wild about the thought of going big 12, stating publicly that we have to do what is best for Florida State University.

It was another running off at the mouth comment Dabo is well known for. He basically gave annumition to USuC, the SEC (as if they needed it) whether we stay or we go in recruiting. It was simply idiotic.

I like parts and pieces of Dabo but as a whole, he is a detriment to the program. As Seminole notes, the real “guy” in Clemson is The Chad…..

The AD should not allow him to make ad-hoc comments….. EVER!!

That is kind of my impression also. I really think Clemson can do a lot better than Dabo and they will have the funds to in the Big 12.

Here is a tidbit I ran into browsing.

” I have some connections as well with the administration at ISU…a very close friend though he doesn’t feed me those kinds of detailed tidbits. But I’ve asked him about FSU and Clemson…and here is the truth…its a done deal. Both are approved and committed to joining the Big 12”

Parts 1 and 2 of FSU beat writers in a reasoned discussion about the Big 12. I like the part about the Big 12 is the boyfriend who is trying to hard.

As to Dabo, you really think you know more about how recruiting is going than he does? I guarantee you South Carolina and other ACC programs are beating the Big 12 talk over recruits heads. Negative recruiting is a constant. You don’t think it is being used against you? Baylor (RG3 is gone) and Iowa St are the games you need to think( in front of 40k) about more often than Texas and OU. You can at least drive to Durham. Anyhow Texas and OU will be in the Pac 16 by the time you join.

I just wonder what you all and the bloggers will say when none of this happens, after all the “done deal” talk.

I like Dabo’s points. Dabo doesn’t care about third-tier TV rights. I still think there is something to be said for having 8 of the team’s 10 away games in 2011/2012 played within half a day’s drive from campus. WVU had to go to the Big 12 to save itself, I don’t think Clemson does. As far as recruiting, kids from Houston aren’t going to all of a sudden want to go to Clemson just because they’re in the Big 12.

The ACC just needs to win some big games and get back to being a viable conference on a national scale. One could argue its recruiting base (at least prior to A&M) was better than that of the SEC with Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida.

The parity in the league over the past 6 or 7 years has also hurt. No offense to the Deacons, but having Wake Forest playing in a de facto division title game in mid-November while 5-4 Miami and 6-3 Florida State are playing an irrelevant game is not good for the league.

I think Dabo is a good coach, hes a great motivator, a terriffic cheer leader, and a supurb recruiter.  Hes somewhere between HC and executive HC. I like the system they have set up. Chad Morris and Coach V run their O and D autonomously. Let the experts focus on their own areas, let Dabo spend all his time recruiting and getting the players hyped up for games. Dabo knows it, TDP knows it, and the assistants know it. and everyone is happy.
