Eligible for this year and has 3 years to play for Clemson.  AWESOME.  It might just be what I’m looking forward to the most this season, I really hope they put him on the field.  He’s got some good company at WR, going to be tough.

I thought he was going to be used as a DB.  I don’t he would be playing much WR at 5’8”, it’ll be hard enough for him to play DB at that height.

Lol not Rich Rod.  He’s been long gone from Clemson and can’t see him ever coming back.  Talking Daniel Rodriguez, the awesome football player and military vet.

Apparently he loves playing slot receiver.  I’d say he’s very Tyler Grishamish (who was 5’11) if you remember a few years back.  I’d honestly love to see him play somewhere on defense, I just know its been stated before that slot receiver is his favorite position.  I think at this point the kid just wants to play college football and will be happy anywhere on the field.  I personally think he will be more of an asset on defense, ability wise and leadership wise.  I think he would be an asset on kick coverage as well.  He’ll fit right into the puzzle Clemson is putting together.  Building something special here.  Every fan I’ve talked to is proud to have Daniel represent Clemson.

I really don’t think I’ve ever been this thrilled for Clemson picking up a “recruit”.  Daniel deserves a chance and I’m SO glad Clemson was the one to give it to him.  What he doesn’t need to do is listen to the Clemson S&C coach, this guy needs no coaching about working out, BEAST.  Can’t wait to see him in orange.  Committed is an understatement for Daniel.

He could get on the field at slot… I don’t know how good he is… I’ve never seen him play.

I remember Grisham quite well as he graduated a year after I did.  But he was one of the best slot receivers we’ve ever had.  5’11 is small for a WR, 5’8 is tiny…

I like the kid too, but unless he’s faster than Sammy and will be doing kickoff returns, I don’t see him getting hardly any playing time.

He supposedly runs a 4.5.  I think his work ethic and athletic ability will overshadow his size.  I can’t see him beating out Sammy, Hopkins, etc for a WR slot….but I can’t see him not getting any playing time.  The guy is STRONG and has the heart to play the game.

Wes Welker is 5’9 185lbs, DeSean Jackson is 5’10 175, Steve Smith is 5’9 185, ....Daniel is 5’8 175lbs, just saying.  And if you look at Daniel its 175lbs of straight muscle.  I really can’t see him having a problem getting playing time.  Especially in an offense where we are constantly subbing players in and out to keep them fresh and keep it moving.

Not pushing the argument either way, but consider the fact that most all skill position football players are straight muscle… He’s not exactly going up against a group of guys at a pick up game.  But if he does have that elusiveness/juke-moves that the forementioned NFL players have then he will get PT.  If not, he’s slower and smaller than the rest of the WR core.

Maybe the SP guys can shed some more light on his future position/playing time, as they know him better then I do.  They’ve covered his story for a while now and have no doubt seen more film then myself.

Great kid, great story, he is all you have noted but he will be fortunate to make special teams this year. I think he COULD contribute (on the field) in year 2 & 3. Wish him all the best and know Clemson is very fortunate to have a young man of his character on the team. He will make an impression on everyone and help the players/coaches achieve more just by being who he is.

He’s a guy who may have been a good enough role model/person to keep a young man like Crowell out of trouble.

He will still be a longgshot to earn a spot in the receiver rotation, but I can assure you that nobody in the country is working harder than Daniel Rodriguez. He has improved leaps and bounds since high school and I think he will be a special teams contributor at minimum.

This weekend’s Football Saturdays in the South show will have a feature on Daniel Rodriguez. Should be fantastic.
