It is kind of like that in every conference.
No, actually it isn’t.
It is true that running the ball and stopping the run is important in all levels and conferences of football.
However, it is more of an indicator in the SEC than in other conferences.
For instance, in the ACC last season….Clemson won the conference and had a poor -31 run margin. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech lead the conference in run margin in 2011 (with a big +123) and had just an 8-5 record on the season. Your team, FSU went +55, a nice mark, but was just 9-4 on the year with a 5-3 conference record. Run stats just don’t mean as much in the ACC. Not a good or bad thing for the conference really, just different.
Same thing in the Big 12…Oklahoma State had a low -22 run margin…but still won the Big 12 title. That would never happen in the SEC.
That is how its different.
