I was there in the late 90s when Mack Brown was the coach. I remember beating Clemson 3 of 4 years when I was in school, including a blowout in Chapel Hill and an OT victory in Clemson. Pretty fun then.
The first part of the Davis years were fun. The win against ND at the last second was fun.
All the crap the past couple of years has not been fun. That is going to change no matter what because there is a new regime in town from the AD on down.
Fedora has an outstanding opportunity to have a monstrous first season at UNC. The Tar Heels return a ton of talent, particularly on offense, and have arguably the easiest schedule in the conference. As I have said before, anything less than eight wins should be considered a disappointment, in my opinion.
Yep nobody cares about football. That is why Carolina is in trouble…nobody cares.
I feel like NC State is the only North Carolina school capable of becoming a true football school. UNC is certainly capable of producing good football teams, but they will never be a football school. I think the NC State fanbase cares more about football than any of the other North Carolina schools.
I attended UNC during the last years of Brown’s time as coach, and there was real excitement about the program. I’m hopeful Fedora will bring that back. I will admit I was on the Butch Davis wagon, as I thought he could do for UNC what he did at Miami. It did not happen, and Fedora seems like the right guy at the right time.
I’m truly looking forward to this football season and what Coach Fedora, staff, and team may accomplish this year. I’ve been a Tar Heel fan since the late 60’s, early 70’s. I have seen it all, the highs and lows, etc. This is my 20th consecutive year as a season ticket holder. My first Carolina Tar Heel game, in person, was the Clemson game at Beautiful Kenan Stadium in November 1977. Bill Dooley’s Tar Heels (Amos Lawrence, etc.) fought the Tigers under Charley Pell (Steve Fuller, etc.) to a 13 all tie, (there was no overtime then) pretty much sewing up the ACC championship for Carolina. Clemson already had one loss in conference play, while the Tar Heels would go undefeated in conference play that year, the 3rd time in seven years. (71 and 72, as well)
I think the future is bright at UNC. I think Ferdora is a good coach and they do return a good bit of talent, and they have upgraded facilities. I think that if they have a decent year this year, he should be able to bring in some solid recruits.
