From a nostalgic standpoint, I am very glad to see this happen.

for nostalgia’s sake, yes its great. From a travel standpoint its terrible. Remember last year when they scheduled the game in the middle of the week, right after christmas vacation so everyone had a mountain of work on their desk and their kids were back in school? With the exception of miami, every other school in the ACC is significantly closer to a major city with a major international airport and an NFL stadium.

So my question is “who controls the OB TV scheduling”, “who will be their partner” and “does it seem like this controlling party gives 2 shits about the ACC and whoever partners with them at the OB”

Until i know that, i cant say if it was a good move or bad.

Terrific move and my favorite reporter Dennis Dodd confirmed that the ACC controls the broadcast rights.

The Orange Bowl will be anchored on New Years day in the 1 pm time slot which is cool also.

Ted Striker: “My orders came through. My squadron ships out tomorrow. We’re bombing the storage depots at Daiquiri at 1800 hours. We’re coming in from the north, below their radar.”
Elaine Dickinson: “When will you be back?”
Ted Striker: “I can’t tell you that. It’s classified.”

GoTigers, that is exactly the reason they moved the game to the 1 PM slot on New Year’s Day. They wanted to play the game earlier so that it would be easier for fans to make it to the game without having to skip work.

If I were the ACC, I think I’d have at least sent a feeler out to Gary Stokan in Atlanta to see if he’s serious about getting into the mix (which I presume hs is) and possibly tried to lock up a deal with the Chick-Fil-A Bowl instead.

I just don’t find the Orange Bowl that attractive anymore. It’s hard to drive to for almost every fanbase and the stadium isn’t great nor is it in a great part of town.

The league is again banking on FSU and Miami becoming FSU and Miami again. Came back to bite them last time. We’ll see about this time.

I agree with Matt S,

Atlanta would be my second choice (only if they could re-rename it the peach bowl again) but my first pick would be to start a new bowl game in charlotte.  Charlotte is smack in the middle of the ACC, and unlike atlanta, weekend/holiday traffic isnt rediculous because the city isnt on the 24/7 model like ATL.

At least the Orange bowl did not dump the ACC.

So….basically what this is, is us just settling again to play second fiddle to the Pac12 vs B1G, and SEC vs Big 12 bowls.  Does anything really think we hold a candle to them?  Give Swofford credit for holding the boat steady while we step in….but once we shove off from shore…..eh.

The orange bowl now is better then the REAL orange bowl, at least location wise.  Still not great.  I’ve been to both and not overly impressed with either.  I’d choose the Georgia Dome ANYDAY over any stadium in Miami.  And Atlanta is just sooooooooooooooo much better as a trip.  Much more family friendly, much easier drive/flight, just better.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, a 1pm game, HOW EXCITING.  Makes more sense to put it Jan 1st at 8pm.  Oh whats that?  The SEC vs Big 12 have that slot?  And before that the Rose?  So basically what you are saying is we are relegated to the normal Raycom Sports timeslots that people MIGHT turn on for background noise as they get ready for their games later that night, but never really pay attention to.  OH MAN I’M SO EXCITED…...Glad its on the 1st but beyond that, terrible.  I agree with Matt Smith, its not the most attractive game anymore.  The Chick-fil-a bowl has really made a name for itself over the years, honestly I find that more attractive.

But what can I say, I gotta spill the hate for SoPines.

But seriously?  Is Raycom getting out their stoneage equipment to broadcast in vintage standard def from the Orange Bowl?  I bet Raycom and little Swofford are wetting themselves over that 1pm time slot.

I’m going to break out the VCR to record this one.  Brb got to make sure I have some clean VHS tapes.

LOL another big bowl of hate for sopines.

Miami is a good place to get car jacked or killed.

Does anyone know if any of Swofford’s sons are on the orange bowl committee? Why do I have this feeling another one of them is going to grab a great job somewhere?

This whole thing doesn’t seem quite as exciting as that Big12/SEC game. You know the one where they don’t have any middle men and the conferences keep all the big bucks, you know enabling them to hire coaches from farm conferences like the ACC when they need one.

I am at least glad to see that Clem understands all of this.

It is not heaven on earth and angels are not running the show. Logic is your friend. We cannot all be students of logic but we should at least strive to be a casual fan. GMOs are banned in 50 countries, we cannot even get them labeled as we continue to dance with the elephant in the room. With each new dog and pony show we dance the dance like we were the homecoming queen.

And the one where the bowl matchup is already determined and set?  Unlike the Orange bowl that will have to settle for leftovers?  ACC vs Whoeverwewantasafeelgoodstory

SEC vs Big 12 and Pac 12 vs B1G….....those were set a while ago, yet Swofford thinks we have a seat at the big boy table….LOL it really is laughable.  Its like when you are at that age that you really do have a seat at the adult table technically for thanksgiving, but still treated like a child, or are the only child sitting at the adult table.  You may have a seat but you are still the odd one out.

The scary thing is Sem, is that the ACC holds the rights to the Orange bowl as its not part of the ESPN deal…..so it could potentially end up on Raycom.  And you know how much they love the 1pm time slot.  And you know how much the ACC wants to keep them around.

I’ve heard that the ACC can choose it’s opponent.

That’s what the people living in my computer are saying. If true, then I don’t see how that would be a bad thing. The ACC would get their pick of the left overs, it could be Notre Dame, Boise State or the #2 of of the other major conferences. How is this a bad thing?
