Amen 98. And for you here is some more reasonable thinking. I invite you to check out the critical column from the louisville local dude linked in this article.
Can anyone say sour grapes of a homer from a team a) that Carolina and NCSU both beat last year and b) is stuck in the sinking big east and would give anything to be in the ACC that Clem and Sem hate so much.
But yeah, the ACC is awful. With a 3.4 billion tv deal and a major bowl home. Awful.
And will it still be bad if the big public schools live up to their potential like they should have been doing for the past decade? I say no, and all signs point to the fact that they will improve. If so then the ACC will be in the drivers seat.
The fact that we have what we do with the TV deal and the bowl tie in says alot. Why don’t you see that?
I’m now hearing that Notre Dame has worked out some kind of special deal with the Orange bowl as an auto tie in if they qualify with a certain amount of wins or ranking. In my opinion that takes away some of the ACC’s leverage in getting them as members, but also nice to know that the ACC can go to the TV executives and ask them what they are willing to pay for a matchup that features one (or even 2) of the biggest draws in all of college sports.
Why is it so hard to understand? It matters little what happens now, the ink has dried on a contract guaranteeing the ACC are the little sisters of the poor until 2026. They won’t make 17 million a year until 2023. By then none of them will be able to afford anything but second tier coaching staffs.
Picking it up in football is not much of the equation at this point.
And why is it so hard for you to understand your Big 12 dream is a fraud, hence your school cooling its jets. Where is this mega deal you claim? I have yet to see it.
Once again the ACC has made lemonade out of the lemons that FSU, CLEMSON, and VT have laid as the self proclaimed football schools who get beat on national stages every time they play and all you can do is complain. Start winning and maybe things will change.
The ACC will manage to survive if they budget correctly. The dominos won’t fall until FSU officially signs the contract for 2014. Hopefully Clemson and VT will do the same but VT might go to the SEC.
It is hard to say will will transpire before 2016 when Notre Dame becomes a full member of the Big 12. We don’t know yet if the Big 12 will go to 14. It appears they do not want a CCG game.
Hard to say if 2013 or 2014. Things are fluid but FSU may not pass up the extra 15 million a year if they don’t have to.
Pines Texas AD, Dodd has gone on record as saying he thinks he can pull Notre Dame in as a full member. Now if I am listening to him or you and casting a bet. Well, easy choice.
Why is Notre Dame joining the Big12? They joined the Big East to have a home for it’s Olympic sports programs. The Big 12 does not even sponsor games in soccer or lacrosse. Yes, Notre Dame plus those sports. If this Orange Bowl deal works for them why would they bother to leave the Big East? NBC isn’t going to drop them now that it’s getting back into the college sports business. If the Big East dissolves and Notre Dame must find a conference, why would they pick one that doesn’t include all of their sports? They can’t be hurting financially with their own TV deal.

Notre Dame is not joining the Big 12…They will stay Independent or join the ACC…...
Today’s word says now that the ACC has pushed out its brand new sparkly Orange Bowl deal, they trying to get their member schools to sign a GOR…....4 schools refused. HMMMMMMMMMMMM
Why on earth would they do that? Unhappy? Shocking.
If you were applying the current and soon-to-be-dead BCS model which includes the Big East and Mid Majors getting involved in BCS Bowls then I would say that the new Orange Bowl deal is bad…..
Could you and everyone else please try to make assumptions on the new Playoff model:
1. The Orange Bowl will get 3 or 4 Playoff games in this 12 year period.
2. Being on New Years Day and 1 PM, attendance and viewership will be up a lot!
3. The ACC now controls to a degree who gets picked to place in the Orange Bowl. That is big…very big. Think about it. Let’s say FSU goes to the Orange Bowl and it is not a playoff year. Let’s say A close SEC school like LSU,UGA,Auburn just to name a few didn’t make the tournament but are Orange Bowl worthy. The Orange Bowl is no longer going to be bound by a 2 team per BCS game max as I understand it. There will be some seriously good match ups!
