He started after Chapel Hill as a teacher at Goldsboro High and actor in “The Lost Colony” and finished filming Matlock in Wilmington and singing the gospel tunes of his youth.
Ron Howard is the only one left from that show. Sad but the only constants in life are death and taxes!
I was pretty much raised on that show. I played the “What is what was football” for my two kids after we heard he’d passed away, and they’d never heard it. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t played it for them previously. It may be a North Carolina only thing, but I’m proud to be from a state that produced folks as talented and well respected as Mr. Griffith.
Gomer, Jim Nabors, and Thelma Lou, Betty Lynn, are still alive, in addition to Opie, Ron Howard. Jim Nabors lives in Hawaii, and Betty Lynn lives presently in Andy’s hometown of Mount Airy N.C..
This was on Johnboy and Billy this morning. He will be missed
Please tell me you don’t listen to that…
