You’re right SP.  The Andy Griffith Show is my favorite television show of all time.  What a legacy. He was always proud of being a North Carolina boy.

He started after Chapel Hill as a teacher at Goldsboro High and actor in “The Lost Colony” and finished filming Matlock in Wilmington and singing the gospel tunes of his youth.

Ron Howard is the only one left from that show. Sad but the only constants in life are death and taxes!

I was pretty much raised on that show. I played the “What is what was football” for my two kids after we heard he’d passed away, and they’d never heard it. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t played it for them previously. It may be a North Carolina only thing, but I’m proud to be from a state that produced folks as talented and well respected as Mr. Griffith.

I’m quite lucky. I have a lovely wife, two great kids and an ever improving golf game.

No it was national, popular and describes gameday in Chapel Hill as it was in my father’s youth.

I was speaking to the long lived popularity of Griffith and his show. Not his football skit.

Gomer, Jim Nabors, and Thelma Lou, Betty Lynn, are still alive, in addition to Opie, Ron Howard.  Jim Nabors lives in Hawaii, and Betty Lynn lives presently in Andy’s hometown of Mount Airy N.C..

Sad to see him pass. I have many good memories of watching him as a child.

I had “What is was was football” on a cd when I was a kid and listened to it all the time.  Andy Griffith was a good one for sure.
