I think Watkins could take the Maxwell.  Hopkins might end up popping up on the list once the season starts, I think everyone is greatly underestimating him this year.

If you’re happy with good enough, then good enough is what you’ll be. Greatness requires the expectation of excellence.

I agree with you on Hopkins surprising people this year. However, I think that Clemson is so talented at the skill positions that it actually hurts their chances of winning an award such as the Maxwell.

Sammy has a ton of history to overcome. Last non-QB to win the Maxwell was Larry Johnson in 2002. Last WR to win it was Desmond Howard in 1991.

I’m going to throw my hat into the ring with David Amerson, best defensive player in the ACC, maybe the entire country.

FSU has some good defensive players as well, but the CB’s are not quite as good as Amerson, Lamarcus Joyner might be able to pull it off. FSU rotates too many on the DL for an individual to put up gawky stats.

If Ray-Ray makes the list we might as well include every part-time player in the nation.

Oh yeah, and if Matt Barkley wins the Heisman and the national championship on top of pulling USC though its probation years unscathed, he may end up being the most beloved Trojan ever.
