Wake is winning with a minute left and I saw Pitt was losing and FSU/UNC is about to start.  I love the great games.

FSU is getting did.  Not cool.

here is the problem many teams have playing unc and in the nba vs mike d’s old phoenix suns ... they get suckered into playing the uptempo, fun game.  it is a low percentage bet to think fsu or vt or gt or whoever can beat unc at their own fast break, helter skelter game.  you must make them bend to your will and play your game.  the problem is playing fast break, shoot in 7 seconds or less is super, super fun. being uber controlled, every possession like coaches (who strict control freaks more time than not) is not nearly as fun.  this is playground, pickup basketball or so it seems.  unc has a system when it comes to this, most other teams not so much.

fsu looked great for the first 12 mins or so.

Oh wow.  I thought FSU was going to pull that one out.  How lucky was that shot at the buzzer.

That is UNC’s game. They run lanes on fast breaks, and have secondary and tertiary breaks. When they aren’t there…then they run the offense. The problem this year is UNC isn’t rebounding like UNC teams of the past. Also, the defense is not intense enough to feed the offense. I don’t know if they’ll get it fixed at this point, but I’m hopin’.

I’m quite lucky. I have a lovely wife, two great kids and an ever improving golf game.

2 issues with UNC, avg at best D ... achilles heel and really long post players (especially if multiple) give the slightly undersized hansbrough a hard time.

Unless the D gets better, not sure I can pick them to win it all.

I believe that FSU gave that game away in the end.

UNC is never going to lead the nation in any kind of D stats as long as Williams is coach. When you run as fast as he wants to run, you are going to consequently give up a ton of points by definition. UNC is also going to get everyone’s best shot every night, every game. See BC v Harvard or Wake v VT.

Hamilton is a great recruiter but an average coach. He Sidney Lowe’d that final sequence. Williams was a great coach NOT to call timeout when the ball crossed the halfcourt line. 99% of coaches would have called TO and then tried to run some set play with no time to shoot (I would have too) but Williams let his boy go to make a clutch shot.

That being said, this team ain’t playing like they did early in the year. I hope they can get that Michigan St/ND type play back where they were just dominating.

Also, it ain’t luck when you do it consistently. Just like FSU won so many tight games in the 90s/early 2000s on the gridiron, UNC and Duke do it on the hardwood. (With the exception of the other night v Wake in Dook’s case smile )
