I don’t think many Clemson fans are big fans of John Swofford.  But I have to give the man credit that he has done a heck of a job keeping the ACC together and actually growing the league in a time when other conferences are falling apart.  The actions he has taken has stabilized the ACC.  Now the internal workings of the ACC needs some serious focus on it.  I agree the officiating is terrible.  That is a big pet peeve of mine.  I also have a major problem with the 9 game schedule for ACC play. Unlike SEC schools, the ACC football school have been and need to continue to play a strong OOC schedule and we need 7 home games for the money.

Anyhow ClemScott I don’t know if you saw my post from Larry Williams who wrote the new book about Danny Ford where he was interviewed by ACCSports.com? He said there is NO evidence that John Swofford had anything to do with Clemson getting extra sanctions back in the 80s. Even Danny Ford said Swofford had nothing to do with it.

I am pretty sure I haven’t mention that urban legend about Swofford.  For a period of time I bought into the disinformation, but I an past that issue. I personally don’t like him because I think up until some of his recent successes,  he has not been good.  I think bad choices were made in conference expansion going back to when Boston College entered the league.  I further think Syracuse and Pitt do not help the ACC Football brand, which is what the money is all about and finally this 9 game conference schedule is an aberration.  Our officiating as an overall league is horrible and it is safe to assume that his UNC connections will always affect his decisions on some level.

I can give a guy credit for doing a few right things and still not approve of overall performance.  Now I think if he gets proactive and deals with the current internal issues at hand the opinion of him will change,  Sure, Clemson fans don’t care for Swofford because of some bad intel, but what is your excuse for FSU fans and other fans around the league?  The same reason UNC fans are loyal to Swofford are the same reason he is bad for the ACC.  We need someone from the outside as a commissioner.

I think it is time for new leadership simply because of the reasons you state. There is nothing that he can do which would make Clemson and FSU fans happy. I am so tired of all this “lets hate on the ACC for any reason we can think of” stuff and if a new commishoner would make that go away then I am for it.

I am simply pointing out all your reasons for hating him are not grounded in fact.

Wait…something positive about the ACC? Wow, maybe the media can print it after all.

Not to mention that Swofford’s son got a nice fat job at Boston College pretty soon after they came in the conference. Of course we know he was the only one qualified for the job.

Tooting Swofford’s horn is just helping cover up criminal activity.

I just want to play our 2nd biggest conference rival every year, apparently that’s too much to ask.  Plus, with expansion, now we play them even less.  This is what we get for playing 2 consecutive years away at VT for the last expansion.
