You couldn’t be more wrong and he has always been careful to point out expansion can change on a dime. His central thesis of FSU and Clemson to the big 12 is still in play however.
I was am hoping FSU can pull it off and join the Big 12 by 2013 but if not 2014 is what is important as that is when the playoffs begin and the big money.
These are not wild guesses on his part in so much as it is common sense. The money FSU can make in the Big 12 compared to the ACC is astronomical. FSU will be in the Big 12 by 2014 or the BOT and president of the University should be fired.
When he says FSU has had contact with XII, well the AD of TCU, former BOT Derek Brooks of FSU, BOT president Haggard and others have said the same thing. In fact the head coach Jimbo Fisher has said FSU needs to take a look at it and see what is best for FSU. Surely you don’t think coaches say these things without the BOT being right behind them do you?
The “Dud” was treating his yarn of Clemson and FSU going to the Big 12 a virtually done deal and neither of you can deny that…...Well I suppose you could but would look a tad foolish.
Let me tell you this again since I can spin a yarn as well…..Clemson and FSU are not leaving the ACC. In fact, they are the cement of the ACC with regards to Football and both programs are about to put the ACC in a better position. When the ACC was included in the playoff formula, that was the game changer.
FSU and Clemson at the very worse will review things at the 5 year look in and see where things are.
5 years, won’t be any better overall then it is now. Maybe on a personal prgram standpoint but the ACC will still be terrible.
We will see. We still have some time this year, but 2014 is looking more and more like the one. You think the ACC is in well with the playoffs, I hope you are not to disappointed.

My friend, the ACC is part of this playoff deal until 2025…The ACC and Orange Bowl have signed a 12 year deal…..Dear Lord I don’t know how more “IN” things can get for the ACC…......
Look, don’t misunderstand what I would like to see and the way things are. I have settled with the “Reality” aspect of it and the ACC is in very nicely. If an ACC school runs the table, they will be one of the 4 teams in the playoff….no question about it.

So if an ACC school accomplishes something that has only been done 3 times in the entire history of the conference they are assured to be in. Well, considering that all three times it happened the school that did it won the national title that’s no real change.
What are the assurances that a 1 loss ACC team makes the 4 team playoff…better or worse chances than a 1 loss SEC/BigXII/B1G/Pac12 team?
The chances of a one loss ACC team getting in is just about zero. A one loss Oklahoma State did not even get in from the Big 12, a far more prestigious league with more cash than the ACC.
Estimates of cash for the orange bowl come in around 40 million dollars. Estimates on the champion bow around 80 million dollars. Not only that one never knows how Swofford will divide this up. He is already talking about giving ND an automatic in whether they are qualified or not, further reducing revenue.
Like many have said FSU and Clemson to the big 12 is a done deal. We just don’t know if it is in 2013 or 2014. Dabo coming out for the ACC might hint Clemson in 2014. He was only tired of explaining to recruits which league they would be in in 2013 and was afraid it would effect recruiting.
Anybody who can balance a check book knows what is happening in this situation. There is no big 5, only a big 4. The ACC has been marginalized into a Mrs. basketball Jones league. FSU and Clemson are tired of supporting this bunch.

A done deal…in what year? I thought we were going to “definitely” hear something this summer. Now we are going to hear something in 2013 or 2014? Maybe you can even hold out for 2020, then, in hindsight, you can say that you were right all along (pun intended).
I stated some time back that I would not respond to you two guys’ (Sem/Clem) posts on this topic because it is so out in left field, however I cannot resist from time to time to say something.
Don’t worry about FSU or Clemson supporting all of “us. If you guys , along with “us” start winning, then we won’t have to have this convo.
A done deal in 2013 or 2014, what is so hard about that?
It is really hard to decide if a school wants to make 15 million or 30 million a year. From most sources it appears the Big 12 wants FSU and Clemson and most likely they exit this pathetic league in one of those years. If not it is time for both schools to hire some administrative personnel.

Agreed. I think ya’ll are getting the cause and effect twisted. I’m not doubting that money is one of the primary factors in CFB (related to success)
But when you start winning (games that matter… and yes VT needs to too!) then the pieces will fall into place.
Do you think nice facilities, or TV contracts were at fault when we lost against UGA, Boise St., JMU, Michigan, and Kansas??
All of those were embarrassing because we “lost” those games… the other team didn’t really “win” them… But it has nothing to do with money or TV contracts or conference prestige.
Money directly impacts the sport, those who don’t think so are blind and crazy. I wouldn’t expect VT to understand, since like the NC schools their close rivals are in the ACC. You don’t even play a hint of an SEC team. FSU and Clemson live with one right in the backyard. We recruit against them, we play them, we compete against them in everything. If we don’t keep up with them we don’t survive and are regulated to basically a Prairie View A&M type of team in comparison. Are we jealous of SEC money? Of course we are, that’s why we want it too. We HAVE to keep up with our SEC neighbors or they will continue to pull ahead in recruiting, facilities, etc. No facilities will not win games on the field, but it gives your program more pull over its close neighbor.
It makes NO SENSE to settle for good enough, I don’t know why so many people think that way.
